Last night, I was convinced to spend the last of my entertainment budget and go check out the Little Brother concert at The Black Cat. They put on a very nice show, and I was among good company. I really hope the group is able to experience as much success as possible, because they bring everything to the table. Great beats, great lyrics, catchy songs, and a message that is not negative, but at the same time, not preachy or corny. Everything hip hop needs, considering some of the ass-clowns getting radio play right now.
While entering the building, something amusing happened. Imagine that. Something amusing happening while I’m out somewhere. What are the odds?
Upon paying to get in The Black Cat, they put a stamp on your hand to signify that you’ve paid so you can go back and forth through the building if you need to. When they stamped my boy’s hand, he yells out “WAIT A MINUTE? DOES THIS SAY NEGRO?”
So I’m laughing, thinking that he must just be oversensitive, and this place would never brand people with an ink stamp according to their ethnicity. Sure enough, when I looked down at my stamp, it said “Negro” too. Luckily, I spent a little time trying to decipher the other words before getting loud like my friend. That’s when I realied that the stamp said “El Gato Negro”, or “The Black Cat” in Spanish. After that, all either one of us could do was laugh.
That’s it today. Nothing long, drawn-out, or profound. Just Leon and his Negro stamp. It’s gonna have to be enough for you today.
Hold on…I spoke too soon. There was a woman there wearing a vintage Thriller jacket. The same kind I wore in my old Halloween picture from a couple of years ago. Only, her jacket fit. Mine was so tight you could see my heart beating.
See what I’m saying. I could barely move my arms in that damned thing.

Hello Negro…Love LB! Saw them live last month….The Minstrel Show is bananas. I’m really tempted to venture back to DC next month to see The Roots. I’m long overdue. You’re quite the man about town… I’m still very curious about your spot “Cheers.” ;)

I missed Little Brother last night so I could watch reruns of Girlfriends and look at Jackie Child’s awesome sweater kittens?! Dammit. Dude… there has to be a way you can let me know about these things. Just like I would’ve let you know about the Hall & Oates concert… if it… uh.. wasn’t Hall & Oates. I would advise you to go to the Roots concert April 1st.. but everyone knows about that one. Plus most of my friends have seen em now like the MILLION other times they come to DC.
