Myspace: Evil? Or Just Misunderstood?

My sister just called me about 15 minutes ago talking about some news story claiming that Myspace.com is ruining America’s youth. She suggested that I write about it and give my usual brutally-honest opinion on it. So since I do have an opinion on it, I shall share with all those interested in reading it.

Myspace is not ruining America’s youth, because America’s youth were already screwed up to begin with. Not all, of course. I’m speaking of the ones doing wild stuff like posting naked pictures, showing off your gun collection, sharing plans to shoot up the school, smoking weed and/or drinking, and last but not least, putting personal information up there for all internet stalkers to see. My argument is that these kids would still be screwups if that site were not in existence. It is on the parents to give their kids a strong moral foundation so that they will know better than to do stupid stuff like that, regardless of how easy the internet makes it. If it were the ’80s, these same screwups would be in someone’s parking lot at 1 AM in the morning doing donuts in their cars while drinking cans of Milwalkee’s Best that someone’s older brother got for them. That, or having sex with each other and bringing a new generation of dumb bastards into the world. Parents, pay attention to your kids and teach them the dangers of talking to pedophiles and pimps on Myspace.com.

I don;t blame the site, because it was mainly created for folks to keep track of their friends. I have caught up to people whom I haven’t seen since high school thanks to that site, so I won’t really bad mouth it. It only gets negative press because of the actions of the people who do abuse it for illegal and immoral means. Think about it. I’s like 60 million people on there. You’re bound to have some idiots and screwups slip through the cracks. It’s not like they make you take an IQ test or perform a background search before letting folks join. I for one, am glad they never put a credit check on that site, or my days would be numbered.

Either way, I say that the news should take less of an “Anti-Myspace” stance, and more of a “This fool is CRAZY” stance when reporting on online crimes committed on that site.

So to all my fellow Myspace people, feel free to hit me up. My page isn’t hard to find(unless you’re a simpleton). Oh yeah, I’d like to send a shout out to the homie Tom, since he is the only friend on my list that’s been down since Day 1.

If you’re down with Tom too, holler at me to see about getting a shirt or sticker. They don’t call me “Hustleman” for nothing :)

I guess I am a simpleton because I can not find you……………..but I am new to my space so is that a good enough excuse?! Any ways I have a 17 year old and 1st she had a Xanga, and I would read it everyday then she got a My Space and I joined as well just basically to watch out for her, I like to think I raised my kids good but all it takes is one freak on line to try. She keeps it clean and really does not advertise for the on line stalkers!! It’s the kids fault not my space or xanga it’s the parents that don’t pay attention to their kids. I would love to add you on my space but since I cant find you here is my link! http://www.myspace.com/boriquasmomma

I have resisted the pull to get a myspace page. It’s just too much to keep track of. Plus, after having my real name associated with my blog for a time, I felt it best that I go back to being un-google-able. Can’t make stalking me too easy!! Hee-hee.

Tom is my boy and I’m down for the t-shirt – I agree with your My space opinions. Parenting is apparently a lost artform. I’m hoping I can bring it back like Bellbottoms, and using chopsticks for chinese takeout.

    I agree

There’s about 60 million people in Britain too, and just look at all the screw ups here! If you have 60 million people anywhere there’s a pretty good chance that some/most of them are gonna be nasty.

You make a fair point about it being the responsobility of the parent to bring up their children with morals. Unfortunately, the government here (and probably in the USA too) have made it virtually impossible to survive on one income. This means that stay-at-home-mums/dads are a dying breed. If the parents aren’t bringing up their kids…then who is? 16 year old girls who work in nurseries/creches/day care? What morals are they teaching the kids?

Round of applause for the government please ….

I agree…the only bad thing myspace has done is cut down on productivity for every 20 something with a mindless job. I like myspace….it found me my internet husband…king beef!

Pedophiles and perverts always ruin it for the rest of us! How does anyone know that the person they’re having a conversation with isn’t a 350lb bubba with one tooth named Tiny? Tom is a creative genius, even if the concept is very simple. He deserves props, I’d wear the shirt! If I were a parent, I’d have a strict time limit on internet usage, just like my mother did with my phone calls. Remember when you’d be on the phone and she’d pick up the extension and embarrass you with “15 more minutes on this phone!”???? Nowadays, parents should periodocally log in as their kid just to see what kind of response they get and what types of sites their visiting.

People can abuse anything. Any place where people can have access to other people something crudball is gonna happen. I’ll say this before they worry about the internet, why don’t the worry about all those old dudes picking up girls from high school in whips I can’t afford. The media never denounced my schools driveway!

  13. Hustleman 27. Apr, 2006 at 11:01 am #

@ Deah, of course I’ll be your friend! And I’m laughing at the other Hustleman and his pink gators! How did I know the other Hustleman was going to be a bamma? Hahahahaha

@ Pink Cashmere Lee, you must have been the young lady who commented on my blog over there today. I’ll make that page interesting eventually.

@ Double L, if I had a son, and he or was on Myspace, I’d use it to spy on his ass and whenever he did something wrong, I’d greet him at the front door with a slap upside the head and be like “You know what the fuck you did. Go to your room.” LOL

LOL @ Tee…You know I have to cover my expenses.

@ Hassan, he DOES look that scary. Look at his smile. That dude is probably the real one chasing little girls on Myspace.

@ Queue, I’ll try once I have some young’uns of my own.

    @ Tiara, thanks

@ OCPD, you’re right. That’s the dilemma. It’s hard to provide for your family(especially as a single parent) and still have enough time to truly be there as much as you need to. It can be done, but it’s difficult. I applaud all the mothers and fathers out there getting it done.

    @ Diva527, “But first, I MUST DAAAAANCE!”

@ Anonymous, it’s the same as the screenname, http://www.myspace.com/listentoleon

@ The Hostess, I feel you. Cause I’d be on your page flirting every day if you had one…LOL

@ Amadeo, you should set up a hidden camera in your school’s driveway, then send it in to the news. That might be funny(or sad, depending on what gets caught on film).

  17. double L 28. Apr, 2006 at 8:09 am #

awwww…….we all need to be on each other’s friends list. We all need a friend :)
    Myspace! Myspace!

  18. Clickums 28. Apr, 2006 at 9:35 am #

I actually agree with you whole heartedly about myspace. I was just talking to some co-workers about this yesterday. If you really want to see why the US is messed up, ‘browse’ through myspace. It has to be the capital for dumb @ss kids. It also will help people realize why George DUBYA Bush won both elections. From religious zealots, to teens with three kids, poor white trash, ultra ghetto individuals, and just folks that are bizaar. But hey, THEY GOT GREAT TUNES ON THERE!!! lol.

  19. latinachik4lif 28. Apr, 2006 at 1:43 pm #
