Allergies Can’t Beat Me!

What’s happening everyone,

For the better part of a week, I have been battling with my allergies, and for the better part of a week, my allergies have been whipping me like a government mule. It hasn’t even been close. If I were a minor, I’d call child protective services on them for all this abuse they’ve been putting me through. It’s a shame when I’ve beaten up folks that outweighed me by 80 pounds before, but now I’m getting my butt kicked by some microscopic pollen that I can’t even see.

Luckily, things are finally starting to get better. I’m glad, because these coughs and sneezes have caused people to treat me like a social leper. Like standing next to me is going to make their arm fall off or something. The only place this has come in handy is on the metro. For the first time ever, the smelly people are actually sitting next to other people and avoiding me. I might fake a cough or sneeze from now on to keep the no-deodorant-wearing-in-the-summertime people from bothering me ever again.

As I said above, I am finally starting to win some battles, but the war is not over yet. Anyone with allergies, please suggest some good medication that I should use. I just realized that it was my allergies the other day and not just a bad head cold. They hadn’t bothered me in years, so I figured maybe I had outgrown them or something..then BAM! They came back with a vengeance! This was five years-worth of pent up frustration they are taking out on me. So anybody with allergy suggestions, leave them here. Thanks.

I’ve always had hay fever and this past Spring was a bad season. If you havent gotten allergies in years and just got them this year then that means that the pollen count is very high. For OTC medicine Claritin is the best and Visine for allergies is good if your eyes itch. If you go the prescription route then ask your doctor for Flonase nasal spray. That alone stops my sneezing and coughing.

    I hope you feel better

No allergies here but Visine is good for your eyes

I have God-awful allergies myself and am just getting over the same thing as you…I live in DC too. Lol is the pollen bad here or what? I come from the forest, ahhh, Mississippi and my allergies have never been so bad…like DC has ghetto-ass-gangsta pollen or something. Zyrtec is the best medicine but you need a prescription :( so I agree with Greg about Claritin. But for a quick fix use a nasal spray like Flonase or Nasonex. What sucks though is that you can taste it :P (yuck.) Feel better! And I love your blog!

claritin or allegra-d are the best… I also like alavert if I am on the go because it dissolves in your mouth so if I am out I don’t need water or anything. the best cocktail for sinus infection is sudafed and benadryl combo… I can’t do the flonase thing… just can’t squirt stuff up my nose but I have heard that it works.

Man take some benedryl…You can be walking around like a zombie and be pleasant all day…By the way…I am a germ freak…I wouldn’t sit next to you neither. I get sick veerrryy easily! I am so bad that my sister in law makes fun of my shit. I am serious I have this thing about people sneezing/coughing around me..I secretly cover my nose and mouth to not breathe it in. Germs travel like 300 feet when you sneeze you know! Also, if I am in the car with somebody that sneezes I non chanantly lower the window down and slightly cover my nose and mouth or pretend I am rubbing my nose with my shoulder lol Now because of her noticing that, everytime someone sneezes – she be teasing me by yelling out loud “SOMEBODY OPEN A WINDOW!” It does’t matter where we are…my sister in law be doin that shit…
Think about that before you make fun of us germ freaks! lol I wonder if anyone else does that…? Hmmm I’m just sayin…

Antihistamines are best for both prevention and treatment of allergies. Try Benadryl, or Tavist, Claritin or Allegra. These should help to alleviate the itchy eyes, and runny nose.

If you’re experiencing congestion try sudafed.

Clear eyes could also help with your eyes just make sure that the main ingredient says “naphazoline”

Allergies suck I had a reaction to some horses at 4am one time right before we drove 2+ hours to VA. Wheezing in the back of a car sucks.

Most of the folks have suggested the right meds but don’t forget to wash them down with some good Vodka. It cures all.

Claritin works pretty well. But I have found that when I take a Claritin with a Benedryl Sinus during allergy season, I don’t have to worry about allergies again for at least 3 to 4 days. Benedryl tends to make everyone else exrememly drowsy, but I have never had that problem, so you may not want to do that Claritin/Benedryl solution until you are in for the night. Wouldn’t want you to be operating heavy machinery and get that call from Mr Sandman.

Stop messing with the over the counter stuff. Get a prescription for Zyrtec. It’s great!

I know those Cherry Blossoms are killing you….

I really think that you should try Allegra-D and Nasacort or some kind of nasal spray like the latter. When I don’t take my medicine my allergies whip my ass and I can’t breathe. So I feel your pain.

How I keep my allergies in check – as drugs are too expensive to be relying on – is now prepare months before. So next year, in April, you should be drinking lots of water with lemon! I swear, it cuts my allergies down. Also watch what you eat, some food aggravate. You’ll still need to use the drugs but not as plenty.
