This morning on The Today Show, Eddie Murphy was interviewed about his upcoming role in the film “Dreamgirls,” set to open on Christmas Day. Apparently, the role has garnered critical acclaim and is showcasing a versatility never before seen from Murphy. This led me to wonder if Eddie Murphy is about to once again become the megastar he was in the late ’80s and early ’90s.
One could argue that he hasn’t really fallen off, since his kiddie movies like Shrek 1 & 2, the Dr. Doolittle films, and Daddy Daycare all made money. Then agian, one can easily argue that he has fallen off, because for every Nutty Professor he’s made in that period, there’s been something crappy, like Metro or Pluto Nash to go along with it.
Then there’s his personal life. I tend to be the only person I know who takes up for poor Eddie when it comes to his sexuality. I think in today’s day and age, people are too quick to label someone gay. It’s the in thing to do. Almost every black male celebrity who has had his 15 minutes of fame has had to battle a gay rumor in the wake of those “Down Low” books and radio personalities who spread such stories in order to keep people listening. I say, Eddie is innocent until proven guilty…Or caught with a male prostitute in his car.
Wait a minute…That was a bad example. Eddie is innocent until seen walking hand in hand with Johnny Gill wearing matching charm bracelets.
Damn it. That’s not a good example either. Eddie is innocent because he broke off the black Spice Girl and got her pregnant. Then went out with Babyface’s fine ass ex wife.
Eddie can be Best Friends Forever with Arsenio Hall and Johnny Gill all he wants as far as I’m concerned. Tracey Edmonds is looking GOOD in that photo. Plus, she’s paid in her own right, so she doesn’t need Eddie’s money.
The haters can’t say a thing to Eddie now. They can call him gay, but all he has to do is respond with “My baby’s momma is finer than yours. Hell, BOTH my baby’s mommas are finer than yours! Plus, my side chick has enough money to buy and sell your punk ass into Tiawanese slavery! Get the f*ck outta here with that bullsh*t!”
More than likely, the hater will have to resort to violence at this point, which is where Snooky and Peanut, Eddie’s security staff, will beat them until they’re laying on the sidewalk bleeding and sobbing in the fetal position. I don’t really know the names of Eddie’s bodyguards, but Snooky and Peanut sounds about right to me.
Maybe I just don’t want to admit that Eddie Murphy likes man-on-man butt action. I grew up watching his movies and comedy concerts, so he’s like a hero to me. Being gay isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it’s just wierd, since it’s one of my biggest comedic influences. That’s like finding out about one of your relatives by walking in on him looking at “www.lookathesehairynegroeshumping.com” or something. You still love him, but it’s somewhat unsettling at first.
Whether he likes women, men, or both, I’m wishing Eddie the best. Good luck with Dreamgirls, and if this thing with Tracey Edmonds falls though, I hope he hooks a brother up with Babyface’s leftovers. I’ll write a movie script with Eddie Murphy in mind and find some rich old person to finance it if he could do me that one solid. I’m not moving in his guest house with Johnny Gill, though.

actually met mr. murphy back in the late 80′s, short lil’ sonofagun, bout 5’8′ish…anyway..i think one of his bodyguard/friend/entourage personnel’s name was “fruity” if i am not mistaken…as far as his sexuality…i think a lot of men, black white and otherwise, who are sexually confused and are petrified of being labeled/coming out, etc. because of hypocrasy and homophobia in this country…well, a lot of them tend to …overcompensate to seem normal (flip side tranny’s doin’ much too much, make-up, hair, nails, switching-trying to make up for the fact that they are not “real”) including having a gang of kids! well, kids or no you can be gay,bi,dl,confused or whatever!
