I read that Jerry Falwell died today. It’s wierd, because this is a man’s life we’re talking about, but it leaves me with mixed feelings. On one hand, I am indifferent because it’s safe to assume that spiteful, over-the-top, overzeaolus religious fanatic never gave a damn about my black ass. On the other hand, he is a Christian, and he did do a lot to help countless people turn their lives over to the Lord in one way or another.
This type of thing makes me wonder if people who believe they are doing God’s will actually make it to heaven despite their skewed political viewpoints and apparent hatred for others in society(in Falwell’s case, Gays, Jews, and liberals). Does one thing cancel out the other? If so, wouldn’t that excuse any kind of extremist that so-called dedicates him or herself to God? Then again, if they believe that they’re right, who are we to say that God won’t let them in once their judgment day comes? Any people with knowledge in spirituality or the Christian faith are encouraged to leave comments letting me know their opinion on the matter.
I know this joke would piss off Jerry Faldwell if he were still here, but people come to my site expecting humor, so I have to throw at least one joke in the entry. What do gay horses like to eat?
“HAAAAAAAAAAAY”
Heh heh heh…My mom told me that one, and I think she stole it from Comic View, or some other TV show like that. Hope I didn’t offend any gay people. Or gay horses that know how to read. Have a nice evening.

I’m sorry… there are many ways to turn people to redemption and Christianity, both wrong and right. Generally I’m practically a “end justifies the means” type of person, but in the case of Falwell, to be as judgemental and filled with such hatred is something I don’t see ANY God smiling upon. The man was a despicable homophobe and chauvinist pig… and the title of “evangelist” certainly doesn’t help his cause. In retrospect, his quotes are some of the most ridiculously hilarious of our time.
I will say this, though… I’ve always said that when Jerry gets to the gates of Judgement, St. Peter is going to laugh out loud at the shit he’s said over the years… I wonder if it happened.
my pastor told me that everyone’s walk with god is different. its unique. mine wontt be like yours and so on. the point he was trying to make that day was to actually stop judging people and gossiping about what we feel they are doing “wrong” and focus on our walk with god. sin has no weight…you know? There is no telling really.
I think people will treat his death like they did Anna Nicole’s. Everyone was still taking cheapshots like it was cool. I think it was the way he perceived the Word of God. We all know people take what they need from it to support their cause.
He was very instrumental in a great deal of positive things and organizations. For that, he will be missed.
FUCK THAT BLINDED BRAINWASHED PUNK ASS BITCH.
Despite the popular belief, getting into Heaven is not based on “good deeds” or “kind acts”. These actions are merely ways to show that you are a follower of Christ. That’s the very definition of being “Christian”, a person belonging to and associated with Christ. It’s all outlined in Romans 10:9. Being saved and ensuring that you will spend eternity in HIS presence is as simple as ABC. Accept Jesus Christ as your LORD and SAVIOR. Believe that Jesus died and was resurrected for your sins. And the Confess your sins. Of course you have to be sincere with your beliefs, but if you do these and genuinely mean it, you shall be saved, thus going to Heaven.
Now with that said, Falwell was mad opinionated and biased and downright hateful. The Bible also says that “faith without works is dead”.
No matter your spiritual beliefs, what it all boils down to is that Falwell’s transgressions are between him and GOD. How GOD chooses to deal with that and other actions are beyond us, and frankly don’t concern us. Who are we to judge this man?
That joke was hilarious. Lol.
In terms of the question, that was really poignant. Hmmm, I think it goes something like this … does MLK’s indiscretion cancel out the March on Washington? Not quite analogous, but since we are all flawed, maybe God just looks at the good that we’ve done and gives us credit for that. I have a good friend (black) who went to Falwell’s college (Liberty) and had a very good experience. She said that he recanted alot of the things he said earlier in life. Maybe as people grow, God speaks to them and fixes their imperfections (in Falwell’s case the racism). Who knows if he was fully perfected when he passed, but maybe God accepts the flaws, ya know? Okay, stepping off my soapbox. =)
Well, on a personal note, I can’t stand some of the hatred Falwell spewed out of his gullet. But I have to agree with J-Bigg. What he said and did is between him and God now.
Also, I find it funny that when someone dies, all of a sudden it’s taboo to say anything bad about them. Granted, there are exceptions, but overall we tend to shy away from saying anything bad. Why is that? People don’t just become saints once they shuffle loose the mortal coil.
Falwell reminds me of my momma’s crazy Aunt. My Great-Aunt became “saved” after giving birth to a mentally and physically handicapped child as a result of her drinking while pregnant. This Aunt invited herself and her family to stay at my parent’s house and then attempted to take over my mom’s house for 2 weeks. She later sent us a Christmas card that warned us that we would be going to hell if we did not become saved.
My point is, you can call yourself a Christian all you want but if you do not live your life like one, I think you will have some answers come judgement day. Some of the worst people I’ve ever met are so called Christians, the type always in church but never seem to absorb the lessons and morals.
Yes, heaven for Falwell and most everyone else. God’s love and capacity for forgiveness is that powerful, as we should strive for here on Earth.
I’ve watched friends die of AIDS estranged from their families and thought if someone like Reagan or Falwell had urged some sort of reconciliation, things would have been different. And I cannot imagine the regret those parents live with now, that their sons went to the grave without exchanging last goodbyes when there was time for them.
But look, my hating Falwell does not change that, and the God I know has showed me that’s not that righteous path. So I do my best to follow.
So, Falwell, RIP.
very interesting comments…and remember too, the Bible does say something in there about “judge not”
Matthew 7:1
Judge not, that ye be not judged.
when i was a teen, i started to really “see” people for how they are beyond their “proper Christian’ ways…i asked her…Granny, what’s the difference between people that are “saved” and people that “worldly” she simply said
“everyone has sickness, the Chruch is like a hospital and the people that go there are TRYING to get better”
with that analogy…i am extremely tolerant of people and their views, beliefs and attitudes. I may not agree, but I respect your right to believe, percieve and think for yourself! Also since becoming a mother, I try to relate to everyone as being someone’s child. What do I want for my children besides them being a productive, law abiding citizen of this world? unconditional love, respect and understanding.
Jerry Falwell was a judgmental bible thumper and a racist. When Martin Luther the King was alive and fighting for civil rights, Mr. Falwell referred to the movement as the “civil wrongs movement”. Then he went on the 700 Club show and said the liberals, gays and lesbians caused the 9/11 attacks. What the f*ck kinda shit is that to say?!?
In terms, of “getting to heaven”, I don’t know what one would need to do to get in. I really dislike it (trying not to use the word hate) when people talk about heaven like it is some sort of club with VIP access. I don’t care what you read, or what your pastor or whoever told you, NO ONE knows what happens when you die, so you better get you heaven while you are here on Earth!
I really love all of the comments folks are leaving today. Plenty of food for thought. Thanks everyone, and keep ‘em coming!
Wow, everybody got all deep…I agree with everything that was said and have nothing else to add. That being said…
I had to stop reading after I read the cow joke!!! OMG that was FUN-NEE!!! Shout out to your moms!
“The road to hell is paved with good intentions”. Theres probably a reason why this is such an over used cliche. So I would say that he’s probably pretty damn hot right now, sweatin his balls off takin it up the ass over and over again by a big, sweaty, black, gay man whose simaltaneously spouting liberal rhetoric! lol.
He turned away too many away from christianity because of his extreme views, calling Teletubbies gay, and stuff like that, turned borderline people away because of the extremist views.
know what? its not for me to judge him and say where he is because i don’t know. but God does not approve of you judging everyone. does you bringing people to Christ negate the hate you spew? i think no. why are those people attracted to Christianity? because you said you hate gays and Jews and liberals, support segregation and they said, “heeeeey! i don’t like them either! and i definitely think the negroes should stay in their place.” i’m not so sure that’s what God ever said in the good book. your political viewpoint has nothing to do with your entre to heaven. but you can’t think that how you treat his children (we all are) is irrelevant in his relationship to you.
Jerry…Oh Jerry…
Out of all the comments I read J-bigg is the closest to my viewponts.
We sit here and talk about Jerry and his wrongs, and mistakes but you know what? Who cares? He’s gone now so why does it matter?
What’s the point of badmouthing him?!
Honestly, I believe he was a called man of God. However, men and women of God do make mistakes! No one is perfect and Jerry was not. All throughout the bible men of God were not perfect and made mistakes…
Look at David..he had a man murdered and slept with his wife. Look at Samson..he was called to deliver the Philistines and had great strength, but was a gambler and had an issues with lust…
Yeah read your bible…lol
Jerry Falwell had issues with bigotry. It was wrong, but he’s dead now so let the man rest in peace!
@divyne, I agree. That’s one of the things that always gets me. People feel that because you are a professed man or woman of GOD you are supposed to be FLAWLESS. Sin is sin. Whether you are a adulterer or jaywalker, murderer or person that runs right lights, Biblically you are sentenced to death. “for the wages of sin is death”
Other than David, or Samson, Moses killed someone and was then used by GOD as well. Paul was also in charge of killing quite a few people. GOD used flawed people to show us that we need to STRIVE to be perfect. There is no way to actually attain a feat like that.
I mean I am not taking up for dude’s actions, but as the Good book says, “let he who is without sin cast the first stone.”
Wouldn’t it be funny if someone sent purple teletubbies to the wake?
Or if a group of trannys showed up?
Don’t forget black people. Jerry loved us so much he started a full blown campaing in support of apartheid. And don’t believe that BS wikipedia has him listed as supporting sanctions against apartheid. I got a full feldged witness of his TV and mail campaign.
