Late late late yeah I am!! I have never in my damn life seen a bug so big!! && I am from Newark New Jersey!! Moved to Va about 6 years ago. Moved into an apartment complex and I loved it to death great deal was almost 800 and we got a special cause of where my girl works. But came home on mothers day this big A**bug on my ceiling! Can you say S-C-A-R-E-D? Every one wants to tell me it is a damn water but and I agreed cause I never seen the damn "creature". Doing all this research cause scared out of my witts I learned that it is a fancy name for a BIG ASS COCKROACH!! A trip!! Called the rental office and they said they come n when it rains like that's supposed to make me feel better yeah ummmmm NOPE!! Don't know how to get rid of he damn things and would really want them to stay the hell out!! Can't do the boric acid or the "roach motels" cause of my very curios toddler if anyone has any ideas how to help fix my situation please help!!
P. S. I know roaches come from nasty behind people but I am one of the cleanist so that's why I am baffled by these fast, disgusting and HUGE bugs n my apartment!!

Live in VA Bch and these damned things are everywhere when it rains...two bushes in front of the entrance to my apartment and when it rains they crawl and fly back and forth between the two creating the scariest damn road block your a** has ever seen!! Grown men have been brought to tears for less! Get them at work too and just had the waterbug vs. Cockroach debate today so I did some research: 1) there is such a thing as a waterbug, it looks very different. The name is misused on cockroaches. 2) they ARE roaches! Specificaly an oriental bread brought over as opposed to the german ones we usually associate with roaches 3) they are outdoor roaches and do come in often because of the rain (your mommas didn't lie about that part). 4) they feed off decaying plants and such, not trash like they're smaller, nastier, more prolific cousins we all love to hate! 5) and yes...these crazy a** big things fly! So next time your landloard tells you its JUST a waterbug...capture it live, release it on his desk and sit calmly and ask him why he's freaking out then if its just a waterbug man??

Ok. First LMAO to the flexin' ass roach with the Lyfe Jennings beard! I know I'm way late in the conversation (by about 4 yrs) but I had the same exact question and wanted to also avoid looking at those bastards. Why do people act like waterbugs are socially acceptable when they are bigger and fly? IDK Anyway, Your banner is HILARIOUS, your sense of humor is right on the money. Kudos to you and keep doing what your doing : )

all of you are referring to roaches. they look different depending on what stage they are in (young vs. adult). water bugs are found in water like ponds, streams, etc. this is one of the most misused terms and it seriously bugs me...they are fucking cockroaches! stop calling them water-bugs!

Ugh I have both. I was p*ssed because my house hasn't had a pest problem for years until I suddenly see this big a** looking roach that was black and it ran faster than my eyes could follow it. I sprayed it to death and two days later, at 6 a.m, I was coming down stairs and saw a blurry thing flying and when it landed, it was another waterbug. Sprayed that one too. Now I'm starting to get roaches. I just tried taking a shower and a huge one was crawling down the curtains. I jumped back, almost knocking down my small shelf. Curse these damn creatures!!

Ok I know this is a little late but Earlier I ran across a short answer that satisfies me somewhat. A roach feeds on anything and the so-called waterbug only eats decaying leaves. Supposedly, waterbugs come from the beetle family. They are not roaches. But my question is how does anyone tell the differenece, if there is any, and does Borax kill them also?
