Marion Jones

I was dissapointed when I logged on to Yahoo and saw a photo of Marion jones next to a headline that read Report: Jones Admits Doping. Considering her current husband, baby’s father and trainer have all been associated with steroids at some point or another, I cannot say that I am too suprised. Still, it kind of sucks to have it confirmed, knowing that her awesome performance in the 2000 Olympics can be credited to performance enhancers.

I never looked at her as a role model, so the moral aspect of the story wasn’t the part that dissapointed me. I was dissapointed because I used to have a slight crush on Marion Jones. Ok, maybe more than a slight crush…I wanted to blow her Olympic Gold Medal winning back out back in those days. Don’t look at photos of her running full-speed in the 100 meter dash. No one looks cute in the middle of a race, sprinting at an Olympic level. When she was off the track, it’s a little easier to see why I wanted to hit that performance-enhanced ass.

She’s a little muscle-bound and flat-chested for my usual tastes, but I started feeling her after the time I almost literally bumped into her at Potomac Mills mall in Virginia. It was 2001, and my friend Wade was visiting the area. Wade, my boy E, and I all went to the mall because E had to buy something. As I was walking through the mall, cracking jokes and neglecting to watch where I was going, Marion Jones walked out of some store with a couple of young girls behind her. I guess I should have known she was using steriods by the way she knocked me to the floor with one shoulder, then stood over me and yelled out “IS THAT ALL YOU GOT, BITCH?! GET’CHO PUNK ASS UP AND TAKE THIS ASS WHUPPING LIKE A MAN!”

Ok. That last sentence was a falsehood. I almost bumped into her, but I stopped just in time. I smiled at her, not realizing who she was, but definitely realizing that she looked pretty. She smiled back and said “Hi” as her and the young girls walked away.

Wade said, “That was Marion Jones.”

I said “I think she wants a piece of me.” Or something else extremely arrogant and self-absorbed. Marion went on her way with the little girls, and I went on my way with my friends from college. Not just any college…Hampton University!

I guess the good news is, I probably have a better chance than ever to get at Marion now that she’s fallen from grace. The bad news is, that would make me feel like a scavenger. I don’t kick people when they’re down, so I guess I should not whip out my trusty soul pole and stick ‘em when they’re down, either. Marion, keep your head up. If you need some comforting (and you’re still cute), call me!

Honestly, I look at steroids like I do weed. I may not do them, but I don’t have any major issues with other people who do. Besides, I am sure that she is one of many… except she decided to come clean about it.

Anyway, the real reason I came thru your site… YO, WAS THAT YOU ON THE DL HUGHLEY SPECIAL?!? lol

WHY did you sit in the front row of a DL Hughley show?!? Dude… my frat sponsored a comedy show undergrad and brought him in to perform. Yo… WE WERE SIGNING THE CHECKS and he STILL clowned me…

    Well… at least mine wasn’t televised… LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
(Ummm… the door says pull… LOLOLOLOL)

I saw this same headline as I just logged onto yahoo. I’ve always thought Marion was cute, but she has a tooth piggy backing on another tooth in the corner of her smile that always got to me. The black Olympian I was in love with back in the day was Dominique Dawes….. do I even need to elaborate why?

Despite her use of steroids, she should not be stripped of her medals. However, she should be banned from competition. Afterall, steroids or not, it took her hardwork to win the medal. You can go watch her races. Steroids or not, the amount of training put in is still phenomenal and she should keep the medal.
You can see a video of her race here: snupped.com/marion-jones/

I was disappointed in her as well. I am a huge Tar Heel fan and I have defended her against all the steroid allegations. I am sure she wasn’t the only person doping, so I don’t think she she lose her medals. I actually ran into Serena Williams on South Beach the same way you ran into Marion. I froze up when I was face to face with her and all she did was smile and say “Hi”. I have never forgiven my self for not trying to holla…

    G’day Marion

Down Under still remembers you as a beautiful person
As MASTER MASHIACH says in the SCRIPTURES
“…. he who is without blame, let him cast the first stone”
And at the end all’s be OK
    No worries Mate

@ Prodigal Sun, it was me. Go to the search section of my site and type “D.L. Hughley Jonin’ Jihad” to see my thoughts from the night! Oh yeah, they made us sit on the front row. That wasn’t by choice!

@ J.Biggs, Dominique Dawes was always my OFFICIAL Olympic crush, too. I liked her before Marion, and during my Marion Jones crush. I’m good with the separatist tooth she has in her mouth, mainly because she looked even better in person the time I saw her.

@ Matthew, I’m not denying her hard work, or her greatness…but if I were one of the people that ran against her, and I trained for 4 years without the aid of drugs, I’d be mad right now, wondering just how much that stuff helped her. A few fractions of a second is all it takes to go from gold medalist to not placing at all.

@ Jabari, I feel bad for her, especially after seeing her tearful apology outside the courtroom. Still, I don’t think she should keep the medals unless a bunch of other female sprinters from the 2000 Olympics are proven to have used them, too. All this says to me is that the Balco thing is out of control and things aren’t looking good for Barry Bonds and his record at this point.

@ Matt, I definitely wish Marion Jones the best. She does strike me as a beautiful person with a good heart. I just think she surrounded herself with a lot of unsavory characters.

HOLLA!!! I knew you looked familiar. Homecoming? Where are the parties?!!?

Who is her current husband that was linked to steriods? Methinks that your information contains falsehoods because her current husband is a very wholesome chap who in my estimation may have prompted her to come clean. JHMO about someone I respect.

  9. Hustleman 07. Oct, 2007 at 8:34 am #

@ Bajan, I meant Tim Montgomery. I did not know that they are no longer together. Actually, I don’t even think they got married now that I did some research on it. I should have said her first husband and her baby’s father. I’ll correct that, since I don’t know anything about the guy she is married to now. Thanks for the correction.

@ Jameil, I think Hampton’s homecoming is the same weekend as Howard’s, which means I’m probabl just going to stay in town! I know, I know…I’m a sellout LOL

You do realize that she’s a got a husband right? Or are you just that slick to take her away?

Being a long time fan of Marion Jones I have to say I am very disappointed at her actions through all these years, well i think they said she used them 2000-2001 but yeah i think they did the right thing by stripping her of all 5 of her medals because they are all a lie! I love marion to death but she has made alot of her fans sad over this,i know she has made me sad. I dont feel sorry for her but i do feel betrayed. I looked up to her while being a track athlete, so she set a bad example. Not surprised she retired, that was a smart idea b/c no one would ever be able to look at her the same after what she’s done. STILL GOT LOVE FOR U MARION BUT U CUT ME DEEP!!

Yes I agree Marion is a strong woman, better yet she is a Champ and still a Star in my eyes

F– all the haters out there! I wish her the best once out :)

She won five medals at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia but has since agreed to forfeit all medals and prizes dating back to September 2000 after admitting that she took performance-enhancing drugs.
