Ladies and gentlemen, I recieved word earlier today that Republic Gardens, the nightclub that set an unofficial world record by hiring me to be the World’s Smallest Club Bouncer a few years ago, has allegedly been evicted. The details are still forthcoming, as this story was first presented to me via a nigga-net news source as opposed to an internet one before witnesses and photographic evidence(which I will respectfully refrain from posting) confirmed things.

It’s wild because I was just talking to my security friends at the front door this past weekend. I feel bad for them, but I feel worse for me. My Republic Gardens free drink connection is no more! Never again will I be able to suckle from the free-liquor teat while making pretty new friends in that building. It’s quite the somber occasion. The Common Share…gone. Republic Gardens…gone. First the Fat Boys break up, now this?! What’s next?!
To all of my friends over there, I wish y’all the best, and I hope everything works out for you. Then again, I can’t say that I’m too suprised considering some of the stuff I dealt with when I worked there. My little miniscule security checks bounced more times than a basketball during an NBA game! That said, I did make a lot of friends thanks to that place, and I’ve dated some beautiful women as a result of getting paid to stand around in all-black near the bar doing next-to-nothing.
Republic Gardens was actually the first DC club that I ever went to. I went during Howard’s Homecoming back when I was still in school, and I had a LOT of fun. There were SOOOOOO many good-looking women in there, that I actually set a career-high as far as phone numbers. I left with 11 numbers in one night of partying! Of course, the next day I could barely remember who was who…and I only think I actually went out with one of those ladies…Still, in my then-21 year old mind it was a proud accomplishment!
I’ll update this as details emerge, but for the time being, I’m just going to say goodbye to The Gardens!

Damn- The Fat Boys broke up? Why didn’t anybody tell me?!?! What is there left to live for…
No more RG?! ahh man. when you get the info lemme know man…
that phone number thing reminds me… when I was in college, my boys and I had a rule – you had to get at least one phone number for each dollar you spent that evening. we were cheap bastards, but even a $12 night could be considered successful…. lol
and like you, I had a shoebox full of scraps of paper with phone numbers (this predated the widespread use of cell phones, so they were mostly dorm land lines) and no idea who these women were. I started taking notes on the back to try to remember, but even that was futile. of course this was mostly pointless as a way to actually meet women, but it did teach some lessons about how to meet women.
Say it ain’t so. I think that was the first club I went to when I finally moved to DC in ’99. It was also the place where I had my first blogger sighting.
@ Honest, you’re talking about me, right? We DID meet there!
@ Tajh, I started doing the note thing after that night! I knew I had to do something!
@ Rome, I’ll definitely let you know.
@ TQB, Menudo is getting back together…so all is not lost!
Hey, is that you I see in the CW commercial with Biz? I thought I saw part of your head singing next to him, lol.
L
That’s me @ Lola! I’m in that thing for all of 2 seconds!
Leon is rising to fame, slowly but surely!
BayBB, you are SO right! Names should not have apostrophes in them. It is one thing to have a name that speaks to your heritage and has meaning. That is something one SHOULD be proud of! But Taynequa, Anfernee and Deaquonisha (all really someone’s name) should have been left on the the cutting room floor. Names that come from foreign countries are not all that unusual, but here in America if your name is not Lisa, John, Susie, Brittany or Jessica……..
Yeah, i got the word a cpl hrs. after things went down with the Marshals coming in. Sounded like a chaotic scene up there yesterday morning. Damn, yo, we was just politicing in there on Thursday, chattin it up. Who would’ve thunk this wouldve happen just like that. Mad crazy, yo!
I was in there Thursday too. I had to ask a question to my boy Erik, but I got on the pool table, got beaten soundly in a game of 9-ball, then forgot all about my question!
I saw pictures of all their sh*t out on U Street…I was like “I wish I were there! I would have snagged a couple of bottles of Grey Goose and a pool que just for the f*ck of it!” LOL
I just realized who this is @ Hype! Yeah man, that sh*t is crazy. I shook hands with one of the owners earlier that night (I have no idea how you spell his name…Lajuan…Luwan…ah f*ck it), but I had no idea the end was near!
um….this saddens me to no end. me and my freshman year roomate used to LIVE there every thursday. the MEMORIES. i say we have a little funeral gathering outside of it sometime. we’ll all wear black hooch-wear. ya??
@ Allienicole, that works for me. There’s a liquor store around the corner, so we can buy some Hennessey and pour out a little liquor to commemorate all the good times!
Yeah, man, youse blowing up! Congrats on the commercial AND the Post article!

E, thanks for the photos. I had the link, but I wasn’t sure if you wanted me to post them or not back when you first told me about the eviction. I’m sure the readers here would like to see these.
I told my gradnmohter how you helped. She said, “bake them a cake!”
