*Warning* This next post contains nerd jargon, cleverly masked by a quote from a highly popular and very entertaining movie. There. I said it. So don’t say that I tried to pull a fast one on you. *
Last week, I was told that my blog entries were not showing up correctly in RSS feeds. As a result, I set aside some time to finally learn what the hell an RSS feed is, and then tried to do all I could to make my entries look better to RSS suscribers. Those of you who look at my content via RSS, please let me know if my content looks alright over there, and if there are any other issues that I need to address.
Now, on to the fun stuff. I’m not a huge fan of musicals. Maybe it’s because most musicals are geared toward female audiences. Maybe it’s because people look at you like you’re crazy if you just break out into song whenever something good or bad happens to you in real life. Or maybe I’m still disturbed by the memory of one of my friends in college who had a sexually ambiguous roommate that would invite all of his male friends over to the dorm and watch Annie while singing along, word-for-word. Whatever the case may be, I can count all of the musicals that I’ve ever liked on one hand. As a matter of fact, here’s the list:
Krush Groove – The Fat Boys?! LL Cool J?! Run DMC?! What’s not to like? “My radio believe me I like it loud, I’m the man with the box that controls the crowd..”
The Producers – Suprised me. I didn’t think I’d like this one, but I did. It made me laugh. Will Ferrell as the Nazi playwright was hilarious.
South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut – Funny stuff. I still watch the show whenever I find time to catch it.
And finally, the greatest musical ever made in my humble opinion: Little Shop of Horrors

There were so many classic characters! Steve Martin as the evil dentist…

Levi Stubbs of The Four Tops doing the voice of the bloodthirsty, sh*t-talking outer space plant, Audrey 2…

Gina and Pam from Martin, singing their ashy little hearts out all over town…

It was like the perfect storm of randomness, coming together to form one funny, clever and catchy movie.
It’s less than a month away from my birthday, so once I compile another wish list like last year, you can best believe this DVD will be on it. Also, before I forget the original reason I started writing this entry, someone please let me know how my content looks on the RSS feed. Thanks in advance.
I almost forgot…Here are the best quotes from this weekend!
“Is that a member’s only jacket? What are you, the last member?” – I Now Pronounce You, using a line from Shallow Hal to make fun of a Polo jacket I got as a gift that is straddling the borderline of “Fits just right” and “Young as Hell.”
“What type of laptop is that? It looks like you’re holding up a Playstation!” – My friend Eddie’s first words upon seeing this photo in the paper.
“Thanks for adding two more steps to my two-step. I am a four-stepper now!” – My words to The After Party Hostess upon running into her this weekend and getting an impromptu(and much needed) dance lesson.

um…why isn’t West Side Story on that list of musicals? Are you telling me that the musical number after the rumble, “Cool, Boy” (sung by the Jets) didn’t do it for you?? But it had such classic lines like:
go man go
but not like a
yo-yo school-boy
just play it cool, boy
real cool
*insert snapping fingers*
I’ve never seen “West Side Story”, “The Wiz” or “Dreamgirls.” I hear they’re all supposed to be good, but I have never attempted to watch any of them.
And if anyone tries to make me sit through Grease, I’m going to lake a lighter and set their arm hair on fire! Unless said person is a cute lady. Then I’m going to demand oral pleasures for making me watch it.
Musicals are where it’s at (or located). And quite frankly, if you haven’t seen The Wiz, I have to question your Blackness. You sure you aren’t a Rican tryna pass?? Seriously though. The Wiz (along with non-musicals like Three The Hard Way, Shaft, etc.) is required viewing for people in our age range.
As for the dancing, I do what I can. Hoepfully, by turning your two step into a four step, I earned those last few heaven points I needed to land myself a spot in VIP.
If I ever doubted your Detroit street cred @ Hostess, I am a believer now! I bet if they’d have played some Detroit club music, you would have shut the party down! LOL
And I am too black! I’m straight, which is why I don’t fool with musicals too much. I have to see The Wiz someday, because I hear it’s on par with The Last Dragon and Coming To America as far as black movies to use quotes from.
Might I also mention Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (not the creep Johnny Depp version). The Ompa Loompas were droppin that knowledge son! As a side note I mentioned your members only jacket today around the water cooler- Funny ish!
It did look vaguely Members Only-esque…
And, you have to add Tommy to that list of musicals.
I haven’t seen Tommy yet, either.
Purple Rain is one of my favorite movies, but I don’t consider it a musical. I like it too much to give it that label. Same thing with Idlewild. Maybe I’m just biased aganst the term “Musical” lol
“Gina and Pam from Martin, singing their ashy little hearts out all over town…”
And some random chick in the middle who no one ever heard from or saw again.
I think School Daze is musical-ish… sort of… and that’s a top-5er right there
Rent was pretty good, too. You should check it out.
@ Golden Silence, yeah, that middle girl just dissapeared. Seymour must have fed her to Audrey II or something.
@ Deah, School Daze was cool, but it’s not all that high on my list. If Mo ‘Betta Blues were a musical, I would have put that up there! I still watch that one just about any time I catch it on a movie channel.
