A Prayer for the Wang

This morning, I had an epiphany: I need to get the Hell out of Washington DC. That, or get married and start a family, TOMORROW!

This moment of clarity came while I read a story about the city’s H.I.V. epidemic in the Washington Post. I always knew it was bad, but when you see the actual numbers of the cases that they know about, it really puts things into perspective. 1 out of 20 is no joke. It’s not like playing russian roulette with a revolver, but still…a 1 in 20 chance that I’m going to blow my brains out is still enough to make me shit cynderblocks. With pinstripes.

For real, if you’re going to engage in all kinds of carnal fornications and stuff of the sort, wear a condom. I can count on one hand every time I neglected to use a condom in life…Mainly because each time, I was shitting pin-striped cynderblocks for days, hoping and praying that I don’t wake up one day and see my crotch on fire like The Human Torch.

I for damn sure would not stand there and look at the flaming wang like that! First I’d go to the doctor and see what type of new-fangled STD that is, then I’d go see whoever gave it to me, and pee some fire on her house!

I had an old boss who told me that he got burned twice by the same woman. He said her stuff was so good, that he had to go back and hit it again! Then, he told me about what they do to treat ghonorrhea, and once the look of horror left my face, I looked him in the eye and said “You’se a GOD DAMNED FOOL! There is no lovin’ in the world THAT good!”

I never looked at that guy with the same respect again. I don’t feel bad, because he ended up losing his job for makign long-distance phone calls at work. Guess who some of the calls went to? If you said “Hot Crotch Sally” or something to that effect, you’d be correct.

So yeah, be careful out there. You can’t just go around having sex with any and everybody that’s willing to give you some. If you are doing it, protect yourself. The only way those statistics are going to go down is if folks get educated and take precautions.

Very good entry. Alot of people aren’t educated when it comes to this. I had a person once tell me that they didn’t want to get tested because they didn’t want to know. I’ve been tested and though I’m not promiscuous I was still shittin’ bricks until my result came back. People need to know their status….

    LMAO @ “Hot Crotch Sally”

I read that too this morning, as I sat on the Red Line train…then it occured to me that out of the 60 or so ppl squeezed on that mofo, 3 or 4 ppl had it for sure….and that alone will keep a bytch like me at home with my snatch hiding under the bed.

  3. Mercy 26. Nov, 2007 at 1:06 pm #

I read this article this morning too and sent it right to my friends…I guess there was a bunch of people with their mouths wide open this morning reading the paper. DC #1 city with HIV/AIDS in the whole country…who woulda thunk it?! Anyway, glad you’re spreading the message!!

  4. KaNisa 26. Nov, 2007 at 1:18 pm #

I heard about that on the radio this morning. Kind of crazy, as many AIDS awareness programs there, it doesn’t seem to reach the people who actually are affected by it.

By the way, I know you and a lot of people who read your blog are from the DC area. I just moved here and I’ve hardly seen any Black people! Where ya’ll at?!?!

  5. Hustleman 26. Nov, 2007 at 1:24 pm #

@ KaNisa, what part of the city are you in? E-mail me at HustlemanL77@yahoo.com if you don’t want to put your business in the street LOL

@ Mercy, I just found out that one of your girls works near me!

@ Passion, I started thinking of every questionable, f*cked-up, repugnant piece of ass I’d ever even let graze past my d*ck on the dance floor in the club! I was thinking to myself “She might be buring right now” LOL

@ Bre, it does make you worry, even if you haven’t been doig a lot of wild stuff.

Unfortunately, those are the same statistics for the Black community overall, and they may be even be worse in other places. So moving from DC won’t help. And almost every dude I’ve been with, I’ve had to make use or keep on a condom. It’s funny, because in debating about the condom usage, they never bring up disease, just pregnancy, saying they’ll “pull-out” and so forth. *shaking head* Or they’ll say, they know I’m clean cause I’m a “good girl”… People really need to open their eyes. I know two “good girls” that got herpes from the same dude. They don’t know I know, but I do. We’ve known this dude had herpes since he gave it to the first chick in high school. We were cool with her cousin, so she told us on the down low. This dude has tried to talk to both my friend and me on different occasions. He’s a cute dude too. Well known in Compton as a baler, and we know he pulls many pairs of panties…

This is a serious issue. And it’s killing Us more than any other race.

While I do know that people are going to have sex regardless it must be said that abstinence is the best protection because its 100 percent! Condoms are not 100 percent. They break, get holes, etc! Face it, HPV the virus that causes Genital Warts can be passed from skin to skin contact.; and thats with a condom! And I doubt it very much that most women or men are staring all in between pubic hairs looking for bumps while in the heat of the moment!
SEX is soo not worth it! And I”m definitely worth waiting for!www.iamworththewait.com

Damn- that’s a scary stat…I gotta get my sister out of that town! Perhaps the disease is being spread by the DL brothas I hear so much about? Or is that a myth? Either way, protect yourselves, people!!!

On a lighter note: Hot Crotch Sally? Damn, Leon, only you…that was too funny!!! I’m gonna have to use that in future conversations about skanks, hos, and all-around hoodrats!

  9. virgle Kent 26. Nov, 2007 at 2:21 pm #

That’s what I tell Roissy, but the dude never listens… oh well

  10. KraZy34th 26. Nov, 2007 at 2:24 pm #

    Great post Leon

  11. Passion 26. Nov, 2007 at 2:38 pm #

@ TQB – those DL brothas are not a myth, but they are not the only ones we need to worry about, these hot butt young ladies out here, that are on ROLLER status… those are the mofo’s we need be concerned about.

I told my 16 yr old, if you even let a girl get close enough to give you a professional, you better strap up.

  12. Hustleman 26. Nov, 2007 at 3:03 pm #

@ Marleaux, that sucks. Sorry to hear about your friends

@ Divyne, you’re definitely safe! thanks for putting the URL to your site up here

@ Virgle, I guess it’s all good, as long as no one wakes up with that Human Torch shit one day!

@ TQB, the study disproves the DL brotha/gay theory. Heterosexual sex was the leading cause of infections according to the findings.

    @ Krazy, thanks

@ Passion, my Dad said the same thing, but his words were “Don’t let your dick write you a check that your ass can’t cash!”

Well there goes you getting some bday for you this weekend eh..

  14. Vahostage 26. Nov, 2007 at 3:24 pm #

leon, your dad ain’t said nothing but the truth! Its true that fellas in the heat of the moment are only worried about gettin’ someone pregnant. These days, that is the least of the worries. While abstinence is the for sure method, it is not realistic. Too many folks are gettin some, and will continue from whereever…. Test, test and test some more and then somebody needs to wear something. I think HIV/Aids is so prolific in the black community because parents don’t want to talk to their kids about sex and all that goes with it. The church also turns a blind eye or says that it is the devils work. Communication and education will definitely make the difference. Not talking about it OBVIOUSLY isn’t working….

  15. Opinionated Diva 26. Nov, 2007 at 4:03 pm #

This is some serious REAL TALK that a lot of Black folks don’t even think about it, but those numbers are staggering and steady rising. It might be 1 in 20 of most Americans…but I seem to remember reading somewhere that it was actually 1 in 3 BLACK Americans (women to be exact). Now THAT is some scary shit!

You’d think with all the information available that people would know to use a condom and be a little more selective, but no…more people than you think are just as nasty as your old boss.

In spite of all that if you haven’t found the woman of your dreams in all these years Leon, I doubt you’re going to find her tomorrow! :)

  16. TQB 26. Nov, 2007 at 4:28 pm #

whoa! Okay, you’ve all scared me into celibacy! I don’t want anybody’s parts near me EVER again!!

On a serious note, I need to go home and have The Talk with my 12-year-old again. But Leon, you will excuse me if I don’t take your dad’s approach? LOL

  17. CaribQueen 26. Nov, 2007 at 4:38 pm #

Normally, I stay out of this, but hey…Leon–this stat has been drilled into all of our heads for years… (BTW, Since I KNOW YOU– the part about you and the word “marriage” made me laugh hysterically)—-Didn’t we walk by the damn 1 in 20 signs like all the time in Columbia Heights metro for years or sit next to ‘em? I KNOW I pointed them out :)

The other thing is, before we get too crazy, it has some basis in fact, but when you pick apart the study there are flaws with it… The skew is (and yes not all) heavily those who were already concerned about their status and also largely gleaned from public clinics which tend to be poorer and in “underserved” areas with regard to health care. To make it worse the sample was 3,000 out of 500,000–hmmm- questionable. But that being said it is a horrible problem in the Black community, and should be put out there (again), but a little more flashing out of the facts would help.

Hearing stuff like that makes me glad I’ve dogged quite a few bullets. I’m not promiscuous but I found out later that 2 of the men I’ve been with were and one of those I was in a long term relationship with. The same way we would not trust folks with our money, we need to not trust them with our health either.

The same way AIDS/HIV was around for years before anyone knew what it was, there could be something new out now. Imagine what Karrine Stephens might have!

  19. caroline 26. Nov, 2007 at 6:47 pm #

I must say, I find these stats really hard to believe. Not to say that I feel at liberty to run around sexing whomever I please with no protection, because you should take the same precaution even if it were 1 in 200.

However, I’m really sick of this stigma that comes with AIDS. First of all, you can contract the HIV virus without having sex, you can contract the HIV virus and not have full blown AIDS. And what’s the difference between contracting HIV/AIDS and Cancer or Diabetes? If we’re thinking along the lines of “death sentences”, then all of those (and more) fall into the same category.

The fact remains is that if u are unfortunate to contract any one of the diseases, it’s possible for you to live with it and/or beat the disease. Yes, having ANY terminal illness is devastating, and no one “deserves” it, but I think we really need to get over this whole “AIDS epidemic” and just deal with it and those who have it. It’s not fair for them to be ostracized or unloved just because they have it.

Great post Leon! I laughed hard at the picture but topic ain’t hardly as funny. I made a post about it also- I guess great minds think alike :-) My mom has always preached “latex, latex, latex.” Straight up. She was on some “put the condom on yourself ’cause a lot of these knuckleheads don’t know what they doin.” Good stuff.

BTW- please help out ole girl looking for black folks. My advice to her is to leave the west side of the city AKA Georgetown, Tenleytown, Foggy Bottom. Follow the chocolate brick road east and south. Lol.

  21. Jabari Talib 26. Nov, 2007 at 6:53 pm #

There is a small town in Florida named Quincy that has a really bad STD problem. Quincy is really close to Tallahassee, which is where FAMU is. I was extra careful when I did my thing in college. The STDs ain’t nothing to play with.

  22. tiana danielle 26. Nov, 2007 at 10:28 pm #

Thanks for this Leon…people need to hear it, cause folks…especially us Black folks are in such denial about this whole issue. Sadly, I have to agree with Divyne-moving is really not going to do much good with the AIDS rate skyrocketing in every Urban center in the US…especially among Blacks. However, considering our current cultural infatuation with all things sexual, and that fact that a soft, phat ass can hinder the judgement of many a male, I don’t know if abtstinence or celibacy for the majority are that realistic. That being said, this virus has hit me as close to home as it possibly can without me actually being infected myself, and someone I love very much is going to die as a result of this growing epidemic. She had been with three men in her whole life, and was married to the one that infected her. She is living with it, and has been for some years, but it IS NOT easy…the medication has awful side effects, and sometimes I wonder if it’s even worth it for her to keep taking it. The worry, the risk…the herpes you might get….(that scares me almost as much as AIDS)….hittin’ it raw just ain’t worth it….wise up folks

One of my boys forwarded this article yesterday. I replied, “*erasing DC from the list of cities in which to find a potential husband*” Truly sad.
