What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore–
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over–
like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?
Just thought I’d drop a little Langston Hughes on y’all before starting this entry. The reason I chose this poem is because I am looking forward to watching the Raisin in the Sun TV movie coming on ABC tomorrow. The Lorraine Hansbury play is a 20th century classic, so if the movie does not stray too far from it’s origin, it should not dissapoint.
The funniest thing to me is that the commercials keep stressing how impressive Sean Combs’ performance is. Not that I don’t think he’s capable of delivering a good performance…I just find it funny because the man called Diddy had so saturated the market with his image, it’s hard to see him as anything else onscreen. If Diddy can pull off making me forget about his Shiny Suit Man music video antics, Making the Band, and “dont worry if I write rhymes, I write checks,” then I will be impressed. To be honest, Diddy’s public persona is the reason why his delivering a convincing performance will be doubly impressive.
I do need to personally thank Mr. Combs from the bottom of my heart for the way last night went. I wore some Unforvigable cologne, and met a lot of good looking women off the strength of how much they liked the way that I smelled. Diddy’s cologne pretty much opened the conversation for me. I got about 4 different “What cologne is that?” questions from ladies, and one “You’re wearing that Bad Boy cologne right?” from another woman whom I somehow managed to offend later in the evening with my jokes. The downside to my sense of humor is that I tend to say one sentence too much sometimes.
Enough about me, Diddy and great cologne. Check out the movie tomorrow on ABC if you have time.

I love Langston Hughes and that is one of my fav.poems so kudos to you Leon.
I’m also excited to see a Raisin in the Sun tonight…more excited to watch the rest of the cast perform….not so much Diddy. I really can’t take him seriously in a drama like that. (flashback of Diddy in the hot tub in the One More Chance video….ewwwww)
Hmmmmm. Hope it’s off by the time Flavor of Love comes on.
wtf? i need that unforgiveable…the chinese haven’t bootlegged it and shipped it to africa so i can’t get it anywhere…i could send this stewardess chick i know to buy it when she flies but it will cost too much….i’ll wait for the chink version…
pamoja!!!
I love that poem too…I remember hearing it for the first time in 4th grade and thinking about how the words incited very graphic visuals to play through my young mind(*reminiscing*)…..
Anyway, I do want to see the movie, I too hope that it lives up to the play since it was/is a true classic and testament to the black family. I look forward to seeing your comments on it tomorrow…I just hope Diddy doesnt wear one of his shiny suits and start tap dancing lol….
I’m looking forward to this movie, mainly cause Phylicia Rashad is the shit. Diddy’s acting is about as good as Beyonce’s. Need I say more?
Ill be honest, the fact that Diddys in the movie is the reason Im not going to be watching it. I hate him. I dont think he can act either. So Im not even going to attempt to waste my time viewing this flick. I hope other folks like it, though (and I think they will).
L
can’t stand that bama diddy either, but that colonge on the right brotha is LETHAL LOL oh and the movie was great, minus Sean Combs there are many truly talented thespians they could have given that part to SMH
ummm I loved a Raisin in the Sun last night. Diddy! Diddy! Diddy! idk what to say bout him. Everytime he talked seemed like he could get the accent for the era right. I was still hearing same ol same ol diddy. And umm at times i was like huh? he did a okay job. But over all i thought it was great.
I thought he did fine. The movie was really good in my opinion.
I don’t particularly care for Diddy, but I did a fine job and I’m proud him of his performance.
Don’t really care for the fragrance though…guess i’ll have to smell it that right someone.
that scene where he was hiting the step and tech routine will go down as a negro classic. its up there with any color purple quotables.
Damn Leon this was one of my favorite Diddy Lines “dont worry if I write rhymes, I write checks,” LMAO!!!!
