The STFU List

A lot of people are in the news these days, talking out the side of their asses. Quite frankly, I’m tired of hearing it. That is why I will periodically assemble a SHUT THE F*CK UP list over here, to highight and illustrate the nonsense that folks are letting come out of their mouths. Without further delay, here is my STFU list for 6/24/08:

Ice-T and Soulja Boy – Is there a less-relevant and sillier beef in hip-hop right now? Actually…I take that back. Every day, a brand new irrelevant and silly rap fued is born, so I guess this one shouldn’t really be suprising. Ice-T claimed that Soulja Boy single-handedly killed hip-hop, and Soulja Boy’s response was pretty much N*gga shut your old ass up” or something to that effect.

My personal opinion is that no one rapper can be held accountable for the state of hip-hop music today. If you’re going to blame anyone, blame the executives at the record labels and the radio station program directors for what’s making it to the airwaves. Don’t blame Soulja Boy for being clever enough to cash in at the right time. Besides, gimmicks have been around since the beginning of rap. Soulja Boy’s music is quite sh*tty in my personal opinion, but millions of people bought it. So apparently, sh*tty to me is not the same thing as sh*tty to lots of other people. This whole debate is subjective. Besides, since neither Soulja Boy nor Ice-T will ever be mentioned in the same breath as the top lyricists in the game, it makes the whole thing pretty pointless. So STFU, why dont’cha! And take this teddy bear with you!

Shaquille O’Neal – Shaq supposedly made a freestyle rap reference to Kobe Bryant, saying that he can’t win a title on his own. O’Neal later went on to say that it wasn’t serious, and that he holds no ill-will towards Bryant. I have no problem with the impromptu lyrical jab. The reason Shaq made the list is because my first thought upon reading the article was “This guy is still rapping?! WHY GOD, WHYYYYY?!?!”

So Shaq, you’ve earned a STFU teddy bear, too. Congratulations.

Don Imus – Once again, Don Imus has slipped up and shown the world that he’s a bigoted, Sam Eagle-looking d*ckhole. This time, Imus commented on the legal troubled Adam “Pac Man” Jones, but ended up implying that he can’t stay out of trouble because he’s black. Then, the next day, Imus started backpedaling, saying that Jones is a lovely person, and the police were unfairly picking on him because he’s black.

I wonder how “lovely” Pac Man Jones would be to Don Imus if he were dating Don’s daughter. Could you imagine seeing Don Imus and Pac Man Jones sitting side by side in the strip club, making it rain on the hoes? Although I have gone on the record stating that ass is a great and mighty unifying force, I don’t think it will happen, mainly because Don can’t seem to come to terms with his prejudices. Besides, if Don slips up and says something like that within earshot of Jones, Imus is getting that ass whipped. So ah…yeah. Don Imus, have a teddy bear and a smile…and STFU.

  2. We live in a world where Lil Wayne is winning by a landside in the BET award polls where Jay Z, Snoop Doog, Kanye West, and Common are the other contenders.

Not to say the BET is in any way relevant…

LOL @ Shaquille “tell me how my ass tastes” O’Neal…that WAS rather funny.

    And Don Imus…next…

  4. well shaq is my man, and i think he could have took that kobe shhhh further than what he did, and for that he’s the man..

don imus, he’s no doubt a racist but what might shock yall is that, i don’t think his comment was racist, i think he really meant what he said by saying that he was saying that pacman was being racially profiled, thats still doesn’t negate the fact that he’s a racist…

and last but not least ice t vs soulja boy
both of them misfits are garbage, soulja boy is single handely killing rap and ice t is a wrap or a gift that’s never been opened, my point is, who cares about these z listers…

  9. Laughing that the sheriff took away Shaq’s badge over that freestyle. And for someone that wasn’t taking it serious – didnt he blame his divorce on Kobe?

And Soulja boy wouldn’t have a career right now if hiphop wasn’t already dead.

  12. I don’t know why people are acting like Shaq saying stuff about Kobe is new … he made a thinly vailed attempt to say the same thing on DJ Smallz’s Southern Smoke mixtape (Ten I believe) a couple of years ago.

  13. Yes, Leon, can I have a bear?

  14. Of course record execs are primarily to blame for the death of good hip hop. However, if I were to blame just one rapper, Soulja Boy might be it.

  15. I just heard about the Imus comment yesterday morning…no comment.

The Ice-T and Soulja Boy one is new to me LOL

  16. Soulja boy is a new level of hip hop. We need to have something for the new generation to relate to because we didn’t grow up when Ice-t did. No disrespect to Ice-t or anything. I mean Soulja boy maybe a no Nas but he is new school. I think all this beef needs to stop between rappers. Can’t they just make money and do positive stuff for their co-rappers?
