Summertime and Jackets

I have a query for all of you well-dressed readers out there. One that came to mind during my return to the Monday routine the other day. I’d like to get some tips on proper ways to wear jackets in the Summertime.

I am asking for this imput, because I own plenty of dressy clothes and suits, but as soon as the weather became hot, I said to myself “to Hell with sweating up my good stuff!” and avoided wearing suit jackets as much as possible. This time of year, I am the king of the dress shirt with rolled-up sleeves. It gives people the appearance that I’ve done a hard-day’s work at a job that pays more than it actually does. That, or it makes me look like a pretentious douchebag who likes looking at himself in the mirror. I prefer to think I give off enough Leon pheremones and swagger radiation to avoid making that second kind of impression.

What are your recommendations and tips for wearing suit jackets in the Summer? I have a couple that are specifically meant for Spring/Summer use, so any suggestions to aviod looking like a well-dressed sweat factory are welcome and encouraged.

Ladies have the same issue, but luckily, we can roll out with something sleeveless on. Hey, wait, perhaps you should just take it to the trailer and rip sleeves off of all of your jackets. That’s effing avant garde.

I recommend you NOT wear suit jackets in the summertime. It’s too damn hot and it makes me even hotter just looking at y’all in those suits knowing you boiling on the inside. But if you do, no pastel t-shirts a la Miami Vice or low cut tanks w/ the chest hairs showing.

And…OMG @ the featured video. He put dude to sleep!

Seems like an opportunity for you to create a new summertime swagger! I vote for no jacket.

Then the conundrum becomes: Murse or no murse?! I hate carrying my stuff (wallet, PDA, chapstick, keys, magnetized eye shades, etc.) in my pants pockets. The bulges this creates are the epitome of dorkiness. My style-challenged (read: White) colleagues never fail to marvel at my commitment to the suit jacket. So what do you do with all your stuff if you don’t carry a man purse?

This is the reason we have to budget for light-weight/light-color summer suits and heavier ones for fall/winter, brah.

@ Anonymousnupe, the reason I asked is because I have this lightweight linen jacket that I LOVE, but I wore it one day when the temperature was 84 degrees, but the humidity was set on broil! Since then, I’ve just been waiting for an occasion to wear it in the evening on some dapper sh*t…

@ Marissa, I might try that one day, and tape people’s reactions on the street.

@ Kayellejaye, don’t front like you didn’t have a Philip Michael Thomas poster on your bedroom wall!

@ Twenty Two, thanks for the input

I was just about to say the same thing that anonymousnupe wrote. Lighter fabrics in the summer, heavier ones in the winter. You might have plan around the weather with this one.

Rock that summer lightweight blazer. AND rock that murse when neccessary. Leon, don’t ever ever ever ever ever rock the 2 together. Aint no dude on earth cool enough to pull that one off without falling in to the gay index category (not that there’s anything wrong with that). Besides linen worn correctly almost always equals peeling back some style appreciative thongs after a few Brazilian cocktails. Now go get some brother
