I’m making a trip all the way to Fredericksburg, VA in order to vote first thing in the morning. Sure, I probably should have changed my info to DC by now, and I probably should have sent in an absentee ballot weeks ago to avoid this trip…but that’s beside the damned point!
The point is, if I can go through all of these extra steps to vote, then you can take your stankin’ ass to the polls, too! Especially in the case of my felow black folks. People gave their lives, just so this generation would have the right to vote. That’s reason enough to go to the polls. I don’t care if you hate all of the candidates and you decide to write-in a vote for T-Pain…just take your ass out there and excercise your right!
Then again, if you vote for T-Pain, you deserve to be slapped. I think T-Pain himself would probably make fun of you for that.
Also, I’d like to thank that special sub-section of the black community, n*ggas, for keeping a relatively low profile over the past few weeks. No one has caused any large-scale controversy forcing the rest of my people to go into “Black People P.R.” mode around our non-black friends and co-workers at this important time. So once again, thank you for not doing anything to remind us all of how we felt when we found out the DC snipers were black, or when Jeremiah Wright started talking sh*t.
That said, I’m expecting some wild sh*t to pop off on Tuesday night, which is why I’m coming back to DC to be in my own neighborhood, and away from angry drunken Republicans with Confederate flags on the back of their pickup trucks. I’d much rather be around drunk folks in Chocolate City as they get drunk in celebration of the next four years, or to drown out the sorrow!

Dude, I live in Trinidad, NE DC. There is no way in hell I am leaving my house tomorrow night if Obama wins or loses. As a matter of fact, i may spend the night out cuz it’s about to be some s*** either way. These fools shoot up the place whenever the Redskins win so, this NFL season has been hell for me. Not to mention the fact that I’m a Cowboys fan.
It’s like that for real? Maybe I shouldn’t leave my house, either… except to vote, of course :D
@ Jaded NYer…what’s even crazier is that probably not one of the armed and ignorant will have voted on election day.
funny thing is, you’re probably needed more in VA than in DC (assuming that you’re voting for Obama, if not, then, well, you’re still needed in VA lol)
and to the guy from Trinidad…that’s sux lol
@ Jon lol…I’m a girl from Trinidad.
FYI to everyone: Obama’s Grandmother passed away early this morning.
DC to Fredericksburg…that’s what, 2-2.5 hours roundtrip?
@TheCommonShare – just curious, did those checkpoints calm things at all while they were in place?
@ Gureala…have you followed the news? They were a joke and a nuisance for the most part. A bandaid for an oozing wound. What’s interesting is that this violence has been going on for years but, there is still plenty of interest in real estate in this area. I think the knee jerk response was to calm the fears of prospective buyers. However, I also blame the trifling ass parents that I see everyday and their bad-ass kids. I live here so, I see all the foolishness.
Common Share, we’ve spoken about Trinidad before; I had to get my munchkins out that joint, man. We were right at Trinidad and Morse, and I “witnessed” a couple murders and gun battles, even had a couple run ins with some of those knuckleheads. (One even threatened my wife one night because she almost ran him over with her Trooper…and he stepped out in front of her.) I’m sure those idiots are all about Obama, but none are registered to vote and they pretty much represent everything that Obama’s against.
Have you seen the $1,000,000-renovation they did right on the corner of Morse and Trinidad? We were right next door, but it was boarded up the entire 10 years we lived there. A family of opposums lived in there back then.
Holla! Leon, safe travels, brah.
I hope you have some ID or a utility bill with your VA address on it, b/c they will be checking for that and if you ain’t got it, you will have driven all the way out there for nothin.
@ anonymousnupe….I’m aiming for a Summer ’09 departure. This summer was the summer of the teenage co-ed gangs. These midget monsters would arrive en masse (sometimes twenty, thirty deep) at people’s houses just to start shit with somebody’s kid over stupid crap. One girl got picked on all summer because the rest of the neighborhood kids said she thought she was too good to sleep with the boys. She’s 13.
Oh, and the new sport is F***ing each other up for fun. It’s the most violent crazy shit you’ve ever seen. These kids, girls and boys, just stomping and wailing on each other for fun. First time I witnessed this was a week ago, when they finally left, after denting about five cars, smashing peoples flower beds and littering the entire street, there was blood everywhere.
I work, believe it or not, for a Republican Lobbying firm. It is sheer comedy in here right now. They are shitting bricks and I am loving every minute of it.
It’s by God’s grace that we’re gone. I’d have ended up either killin’ somebody’s child (or some child’s imbecilic parent), or gettin’ killed over there. They keep on talkin ’bout gentrification and how we shoulda held on to the property and rented it. Man, please. With the kinda tenants that place draws?!
@ anonymousnupe….It will take years for Trinidad to turn over, especially with the economic times heading our way. There is an entrenched respect and admiration for sheer ignorance that is mind-boggling.
I live across the street from the “wreck” center where you can observe the decline of human civilization at just about any given time of the day. I used to be as much of a bleeding heart as the next girl but, there comes a time when you just say to hell wid ‘em. For me, it’s that time.
I was gonna reprimand you at first for not changing your voter info to DC, but then I realized…that’s one more Obama vote for VA.
Thanks Leon!!!
@ The Common Share & Anonymousnupe, remind me never to get lost around those parts!
@ Jon and Kayellejaye, VA needed my vote more than DC did. You already know how folks are voting out here! Besides…to Hell with taxation without representation!
@ Clayizaiken, all I needed to show was my voter registration card and license. It wasn’t a hassle at all.
@ Gureala, it’s about 45 minutes to an hour each way with NO traffic, but that turns to 2 hours or more if you end up traveling during during rush hour(s)!
Yeah we needed your vote more than DC. Hampton’s homecoming was this past weekend. I left a wedding rehearsal and heard the band practicing and thought about you. :)
