I wrote an entry last night once I got home from the election party that I attended. However, I am not posting it, because I was drunk, and quite frankly, President-Elect Obama deserves much more than a bunch drunken ListenToLeon praise for his accomplishment. So as the final remnants of this hangover leave my body, I’ll try to write something more fitting.
Besides, I shot a “Leonmentary” that night, commemorating the moment in history while drinking quite heavily with neighbors and friends. I’ll be editing that one later on, so look for it to be posted here within the next few days.
I can honestly say that I never expected live to see the day that America would have a Black President, let alone, one so inspiring. History was made, and we are all witnesses.
That said, Barack Obama is about to inherit one Hell of a mess. I am not trying to pee in anyone’s corn flakes right now, but we need to be realistic about the expectations that we place on our 44th President. He is not the second coming of Jesus, nor the son of Kal-El from the planet Krypton, so don’t think that the journey is over just because he won. As amazing and incredible as this election was, it’s really just the beginning. Now, the real work begins…
Our nation did not get the state that it’s in overnight, so do not expect Barack Obama to single handedly conquer the bulk of the problems facing it as soon as he walks in the door. I am confident that the US is in great hands, but recognize and realize that it’s going to take time and patience to make this country better.

so… does that mean no reparations? I have to know if I need to make up with my ex-husband so I can cash in!! lol
Jaded, you know I kept waiting for that (reparations) to come up during the campaign, maybe even as one of the debate questions. I’m absolutely amazed that the Repubs didn’t manage to somehow go there. That would have been the perfect no-win trap for Obama. If he said he was against them he would have lost a ton of black voters proly; had he said “for” in the current economic climate he would have pretty much lost everybody else.
no one brought it up during the campaign?? I scooped the GOP??
GO ME, GO ME!!!
The Conservative commentators are already calling for the end of affirmative action and racial preferences. I guess they figure that everything is equal since the president is Black. While this view is extremely short sighted, I am sure it will pick up steam. Ward Connerly and others will lead the charge.
Nevertheless, I really hope Barack surrounds himself with educated, experienced, and loyal people. He could also use someone with an aggressive personality to offset his reserved demeanor. I think this Brother can get some things positive things accomplished. January 20th is going to be a great day.
I know D.C. is going to be ridiculous the week of the inauguration! I’m hoping I can convince some friends to fly from Cali to be there to witness history. You’re so lucky you already live in the city.
Finally! A black person who realises that Obama isn’t the Messiah!
Honestly, I’ve never cared enough before but this year I am definitely taking off work to be there for the inauguration.
Now I just have to convince someone to camp out on my behalf to get me a spot close enough to see the action! :)
I was worried that cats would look to Barack to walk on water, but I am encouraged that people realize that this is a team effort. I am kinda bummed about the reparations. With the economy in the state its in, I think bringin it up is like askin a complete stranger for his last cigarette. In any event, allow me to shamelessly plug my mans site, who wrote a very insight piece in the same vein:

You need tickets in order to get close to the action for Inauguration. You have to contact your local congressman and/or Senator to get on the list.
Spot on. I wrote a small portion in this regard in my own blog the day after. The team effort of course will not only involve Obama and the team he chooses, but also US. I think that this win alone was a jump start for motivation and inspiration to ACT.
Good post. Writer Alice Walker wrote an open letter to Mr. Obama at ‘The Root’ blog (am I allowed to reference other blogs?) that nearly said this very thing. It was beautiful.
