I just saw the video today for one of the songs I was playing to death before my iPod met it’s untimely demise. Thanks to the good folks at WorldStarHipHop for sending out this clip:
I love this song, and the video is pretty good. Once again, Kanye has taken things to a different level than most hip-hop artists as far as creativity is concerned. It looks like they originally shot this in live-action, then did some kind of color layering animation technique to it. Then again, I’m acting like I really know something about film making and animation. You can see from the piss-poor production quality of the “Leonmentary” that I put here yesterday, that I need to actually take some time to learn more, instead of completely relying on my sense of humor in lieu of my lack of technical skill!
Back to the Heartless video, I thought the one for Love Lockdown was more visually powerful, but I like this song better. I mean, who hasn’t had a rough breakup and felt this way? The fact that it’s easy to relate to, and the beat is crazy(albeit a little similar to his collaboration with John Mayer, Bittersweet thanks to the flutes) makes me look forward to hearing all of Kanye West’s new album, 808s and Heartbreak even more than I did a few months back.
I just hope Kanye T-Painian use of that autotune thingy holds up for an entire album. I don’t want it to get annoying. Listening to an entire album like that can go from “Hey, this is catchy” to “I feel like a clan of evil harmonicas is trying to slowly kill me” in less time than one would imagine. And for goodness sakes, do not partake in any kind of drug use while listening to any kind of autotune robot serenade! Trust me on this one!
Let me know what you think about the video, the song, and the upcoming 808′s and Heartbreak album.

The Jetson pop art is a trip, that’s for sure. I’m still not sure to make of Kanye’s whole concept album, but it still has my attention, so that’s saying something.
That technigue is called “Rotoscoping”. The movie “A Scanner Darkly” with Keanu Reeves used this method of animation.

Actually the rotoscoping technoque isn’t as pronounced in this video
“I feel like a clan of evil harmonicas is trying to slowly kill me”

This video is super ill!!! Kanye is smashing the game right now. No one is touching him right now.
I’ll be glad when the autotune phase is over!
Kanye’s doing his own style within the autotune era, and the song/video is the muhfuckin truth. Plus Campbell’s soup and Jetson’s art? WTF…

@ Ed, I know the Cambell’s Soup thing is an ode to Andy Warhol, but I don’t know about that Jetsons art. It made me smile though!
@ Nikki, people are running it into the ground. Even T-Pain is sick of it! http://smokingsection.uproxx.com/TSS/?p=13953
@ J-Biggs and Bombchell, I love the song, and I’m glad Kanye’s keeping the videos as creative as he is.
@ Phoenix7, I’ve been playing the song to death LOL. I need to finally watch A Scanner Darkly
@ Robinson, thanks for telling me the name of that technique. I’d heard of it, and seen it in use plenty of places, but never knew what it was called.
@ Kayode Kendall, It definitely has mine, too.
@ MissJay, that’s what it sounds like sometimes!
A Scanner DArkly is kinda sad in a way to me LOL so don’t be blown by the ending LOL!!!!!!
I can dig it.
