Paranoid

The way folks have been ripping Kanye West’s 808′s and Heartbreak album, I figure I’d chime in and give my opinion. I’ve only listened to the entire thing once, and my based off of that, I feel that it was an ambitious album, but Kanye doesn’t have the vocal ability to pull it off all the way. The songs are all kind of hit or miss, but overall it’s ok to me.

That said, I have been playing this track right here to death:

So I’m not giving 808′s and Heartbreak a bad review, but more of a “It’s aiight” review.

Oh yeah, I had to retire my “Swagger Scale” rating system, due to the fact that people have taken the term, and beaten it within an inch of it’s life. Right now, the word “swagger” is lying somwhere in the fetal position, bloodied and shivering. THAT’S what you unoriginal motherf*ckers did to the catch phrase I’ve bee using on here since 2004! The poor word may never be the same :(

I told myself I wasn’t gonna mess with 808′s & Heartbreak b/c that damn vocoder would drive me crazy. However, I’ll admit that ‘Love Lockdown’ is a banger.

This album is average at best. I appreciate the brother for trying something new, but new isn’t better in this case. I hope he gets back to his normal lane on his next album.

    Problem:

I’ve only listened to the entire thing once,

No way, no how, would I respect anybody’s write up off one or a couple of listens (and that’s what the internet does on the regular.) Music is subjective to be relatable to circumstance as well as the usual criteria of quality and that yadda yadda so if the reviewer isn’t giving the music proper spins, nor doing research listening to build up to the review, it’s nothing but a lot of hot air being gassed out. And in blog terms, a post that deserves to be buried.

@ TC, that’s why my focus is comedy over here. I leave the serious stuff to y’all. I’ve given it a few more chances this weekend, and to me, it’s still hit or miss.

i hadn’t heard this song yet, but i definitely am feeling a few of the songs on the album…just not all of them. maybe they’ll grow on me. i know a few people who hated love lockdown…some of them still do, but some have come around. im gonna try to get up early enough tomorrow to pick up a copy before my fav music store in chicago sells out.

@ TC you do have a valid point though, which is why I made it clear to everyone that I’d only given it one full listen at the time. A lot of times, stuff has to grow on me, or I notice things on 2nd and 3rd listen that I missed before.

@ missjess, I feel you. It’s going to sell…That’s one thing that’s GUARANTEED!

I’m NOT feeling it at all… but the production is sick.. I’m hoping he will reuse all of those tracks when he gets over this whole heartbreaks thing because he could really pull some bangers out
