The Rickrolling of America

The good folks responsible for Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends managed to take the old Rick Roll internet prank to new levels, when they pulled off the Rick Rolling of a lifetime during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade.

First off, an actual Rick Astley sighting in 2008 in itself is somewhat funny…just because. That little white man with the NFL-sized black man voice was always pretty amusing in my opinion, even before this Rickrolling trend started.

I on the other hand, would never take part in something so juvenile and silly. I’d much rather you click on my latest article for King Magazine’s site instead. It’s pretty good, if I do say so myself.

…and I do! I DO say so myself!

Wasn’t that great?!?! :) I wish I was still in Manhattan to see the parade. I came out to Connecticut; first time I’ve missed the parade in years and I miss the *this*??? Damn! :)

@ Mbuckingham, I remember the first time it happened to me. It was on some site where you had to click like 100 times before you could finally make it stop!

@ CB, there are two certainties when it comes to pop culture: All good things must come to an end, and all clever trends eventually get beaten into the ground and die a slow, agonizing death. I was just lamenting over the death of the word “swagger” the other day over here. Anytime OLD SPICE names a product after a buzz word, it’s officially flatlined!

@ Twanna, sorry to hear that you missed it. Hope your Thanksgiving was great otherwise.

@ TheJennTaFur, I was shocked too. I was like “Where the hell did they find Rick Astley? Was he somewhere hanging out with Lou Bega and Right Said Fred? WTF?!

@ Leon, I feel your pain! The actual King article is here: http://www.king-mag.com/online/?p=9185

I promise that this time, it’s the real deal and Rick Astley-free.

@ Wonderlove, it’s a good show. I love that dude is still doing the “MoJoJoJo” voice from Power Puff Girls with that one blue character!

Your blog just became 53% more attractive to me for featuring my peeps from The Cartoon Network! And Rick Astley! He finally looks like a grown man! He always looked like a perpetual boy to me.

I am not ashamed to admit that I loved Rick Astley’s music in the 80s!

I now share the ultimate BarackRoll:

but I was really mad cuz every time I asked someone what “rick rolled” meant, they’d send me a youtube link to the song, and I wouldn’t get it :(
