The Washington Post Express quoted me again this morning, this time mentioning my entry about Barack Obama’s NCAA bracket picks. Not to gloat or anything, but they must appreciate what I do over here. Thank you to the good folks over there who keep helping to spread the word about my comedy to people who otherwise wouldn’t have ever heard of ListenToLeon.net
One thing I have noticed, however, is that most of my quotes have come from entries about Barack Obama. Well, aside from the pet monkey entry, and that story is somewhat linked to him thanks to that ignorant and tasteless cartoon that the New York Post ran a few weeks ago.
I think it’s time for me to call an end to my “there’s a black guy in the White House, and his name isn’t Colin Powell” honemoon and move on to new terrain. I’m not going to abandon Obama comedy completely, because after all, the man is the President of the United States. I’m just going to go ahead and switch to the new site design a bit early, or at least change the header to something less “presidential.” Besides, that photo doesn’t really do me justice. I do smile my cheesy smile a lot, but not from that angle, unless it’s for comic effect. Can’t be losing residual sex appeal points for an unflattering header! I mean, my female readers deserve better!
Did that sound a tad arrogant? I think this Express mention, along with my House Guest feature over on What’s Hot Washington, the brand new lifestyle site from the VERY lovely and talented April Watts(of MAJIC 102.3 fame), has gone to my head. Seeing your name in print this many times in one day will do that to you!
To those of you who are in the D.C. area, I was planning on stopping by U Street tonight and attending Mocha Hut’s open mic, talking my usual sh*t and passing out my rather pimpish business cards. This time, I wanted to read an actual poem, instead of just telling a funny story or stand-up bit. Unfortunately, they closed their doors for good a few weeks early. I was told that they were closing at the end of the month, but according to U Street Girl, they’ve already shut down to make way for another coffee shop in the exact same spot.
So if I am ever to find another open-mic that’s cool with me and my onstage assfoolery disguised as creative expression, which poem should I perform? The “Raw” seduction poem of ignorance from last week? Or the poem version of “Butch Black” about the belt my Aunt Cora used to beat my ass with as a kid?
Leave a comment and let me know. I might have to stop by Madam’s Organ and sing a karaoke song to get this silliness out of my system. That, or I could write more stuff over here. We’ll see how I’m feeling later tonight…

Do my eyes deceive me? Has Leon finally gone over to showing full entries in his RSS feed?
Not 100%, unfortunately @ Joe. I’m trying to do it now based on entry length. Sorry I could not make it to last night’s Blogger Meetup. I was working on something that’s due today.
Hey I learned through Facebook that the poetry night Mocha Hut used to host has been moved just down the street. Don’t have Facebook access at work so I can’t double check but, I believe it’s going on tonight.

I’m in the DC area currently, would love to check it out. How long does it usually last though?
Have you seen the hilarious brother who lampoons Obama on youtube? Some of it is too funny, especially this Single Ladies take off: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PqI12R8YNU. Holla.
