I really should have known better. I’m all about multitasking, and right now, I am attempting to write a blog entry while eating a sandwich at Busboys and Poets directly after a workout. It’s cool, but I am sharing a couch with two people, watching as lines upon lines of people being seated in droves. I forgot the one thing you can always count on during a nice weekend afternoon: crowds at any establishment with a decent brunch.
Yes, DC is indeed a brunch city. During the Spring, Summer and beginning of Fall, if you’re not at a brunch hotspot by noon or so, you’ll be among the masses of hungry people who refused to get up early or cook their own food. Nothing wrong with that, because there are plenty of great places to make your Sunday afternoon meal an enjoyable experience.
Honestly, the only time brunch crowds upset me is when my Wifi is acting up at home. When that happens, I’m on a mission to handle my internet business, and I have no concern whatsoever for anyone or anything that gets in my way. I’ll be waiting for a seat thinking thoughts like “Why are all these men here? Don’t they know basketball is on?! WHERE ARE YOUR TESTICLES, MAN!!! GO HOME AND WATCH THE GAME ALREADY!!!”
This trip to Busboys has been pretty good though. That place is good for people-watching. It brings out everything from the most douchebaggiest of pretentious folks to laid-back cool people, all coexisting in one artsy-fartsy space. It’s right up my alley! Whether I’m in creative mode(like now), arrogant “talk-about-myself-in-third-person-because-I-am-THAT-awesome” mode, or just feeling like relaxing for a quick second, I knock all of that out right here.
I’m about to get back to my sandwich, but I definitely want to know what your favorite places are to get brunch. Two of my other favorites are Tonic over in Mt. Pleasant and St. Ex over on 14th Street. Even if you’re not in DC, list your favorite brunch spots in your city. That way, I’ll know where to go whenever I’m traveling!

Is that your food? Mmmm, I miss DC. Here at home, brunch is something only the “uppity people” mess with. The closest thing to brunch around my way is IHOP.
This makes it official: I am on the wrong damn coast.
I. Am. Moving. To. DC.
@ E.Jay, that’s not my food. I got a BLT, which really isn’t breakfast food at all.
@ Miss Behave, you know you’re always welcome in DC!
lol, when i ran into you today i had just had brunch at utopia, the food was good and they have $1.25 mimosas and bloody marys! we also tried creme cafe but the wait is always long.
i like busboy’s and sweet georgia brown’s. try their brunch if you haven’t done so already. everytime i go get brunch i’m always amazed at how many other people had the same idea.
For brunch, I love Marvin (14th & U Sts. NW) and Creme (1300 block of U St. NW), though lately I’ve said to hell with Creme ’cause they’re always crowded. Georgia Brown’s is a must-do if you’ve never had brunch there before; it’s an abundance of savory-ness! Lol
The last few times I’ve done brunch was Tony & Joe’s in DC on the Georgetown Waterfront or Jasper’s Largo, MD
Now that I think about it, I’ve also been to Mango Mike’s in Alexandria VA
alone* lol
