Early this Good Friday morning on Twitter, Black Canseco posed these questions: “Why are we more accepting of Easter eggs and the Easter Bunny than we are of Jesus Christ? Would we be more into Jesus Christ if he hopped around with a basket filled with booiled eggs and chocolate?”
Of course, I gave one of my usual Leon responses, and typed: “Man, if it came down to a one-on-one streetfight between the Easter Bunny and Jesus, my money is on Jesus!”
Before you say anything, I already realize that this is a silly thing to say. Although “Thou shalt not throw-down, bare knuckled in a back-alley” isn’t one of the 10 Commandments, I highly doubt that Jesus and The Easter Bunny would ever engage in fisticuffs, should they ever encounter one another. In fact, if I were to ever see Jesus Christ and The Easter Bunny in the same place at the same time, the last thought on my mind would be “I wonder if they’re going to fight.” I’m pretty sure I’d have PLENTY of other, more pressing concerns to think about at that particular moment!
I’m bringing this thought up because another person on Facebook also asked “Do you believe everything that is written in the bible? (King James Version) If so WHY…If not…WHY?” I’d love to get your answers to this question. Here’s what I wrote in response:
My personal take is that the Bible has been altered so many times via translation/to suit the desires of people in power, that it’s impossible to take EVERYTHING literally. That said, I do believe that the core tenets hold strong.
It’s like that acronym, Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth…Holding strong to the values stressed in the Bible(love, respect, honesty, etc) is the best way to live. I hate to keep speaking in cliches, but you know…the Golden Rule: “Do unto others as you’d have them do unto you.”
I’d love to hear your thoughts, so please feel free to share them.

I believe it isn’t the Bible that’s been altered, but the people who are reading it. We read and believe what we want to believe. God’s truth can’t stay concealed for too long before he finds another way to reveal it.
I mean, look what he used to send his messages out to folk back in the day? Burning bushes, plagues, pillars of salt, the great freakin’ flood!! There’s a scripture that says if the word of God was not spoken, then the stones would cry out. I don’t know about you, but as soon as I see some rocks with mouths on ‘em preachin to me, I know it’s a wrap!
you are driving the bus with gasoline draws.
@ milkmayun, for the fight poster? Or my view on literal translations of what’s in the Bible?
In response to the Bible question, I think that the Bible is divinely inspired. However, you have to remember that the Bible was put together by man. There are a number of books that were left out (check out Banned from the Bible on the History channel) for various reasons. For that reason, I don’t think that everything in the Bible should be taken literally but there are core concepts we should live by (the Golden Rule, etc.)
Well, i look at it like this. Who knows? I mean, it’s a belief. I try not to debate faith and things of that nature because it’s not logical or measurable by a common standard. Personally I pray before and after I read the word that I will receive “The UNDERSTANDING.” For those that take everything literally (that’s your right), just remember Jesus often spoke in parables.
Happy Easter, Resurrection Sunday, all that good stuff!
Peace
Hmm…this is definitely a good question.
I think that as long as you hold up the general tenets of the bible as you said and do unto others as you would have them do unto you, you should be cool.
In this day and age, who do you think would really follow a literal line-by-line interpretation of the bible? No shellfish? No dancing? No premarital sex?
If that’s the case, I guess I’d better go buy some shorts for my nice new condo down below…
As for books being left out, that’s true but every truth that is written in the bible is written more than once. So when you study the “whole” thing,(old and new t’s) you will get everything reaffirmed.
Many people are starting to return to the “old laws”-meaning the festivals and food laws (not the sacrificial laws which were done away with at the cross) in order to restore a more balanced, less polluted diet and less material, superficial spiritual celebration of true Holy days.
