Wait a minute…That’s not the Obsession I meant to write about! I’m referring to Obsession the film starring Beyonce and Idris Elba. This Obsession is the stuff I used to wear in 8th grade, hoping it would get some older girl to dance with me, since I was too chicken-sh*t to go ask her myself back then. Let’s refocus on the movie that I most likely will not be seeing this weekend, and get away from the cologne that I will not be wearing.
Is it me, or does this movie look really bad? Not just “I just wasted $20 taking a date to this” bad, but “Future BET Blackbustster Movie” bad. I’m not the biggest fan of Beyonce’s movies, but I’m not one of those people who says that she can’t act. However, when I see she’s in a movie, it had better look like a good one, or I’m steering clear. This one looks like a mix between “Fatal Attraction” and “Disclosure” with black people. I can wait for HBO or Cinemax to watch Fatal Ablacktion…I mean, Obsession.
The worst part about it is that the movie would be scarier if it were only 30 minutes. Like, suppose the white lady going after Idris Elba’s character decided to cry rape or sexual harassment, even if nothing happened. An accusation is all it takes these days. No need to break in someone’s house and boil their kid’s pet rabbit! Alas, the TV commercials show Beyonce talking tough and fighting the psycho office slut, which lets me know there is some kind of drawn-out showdown…and also lets me know I’ll be throwing popcorn at the screen if I go see this movie.
If any of you see Obsession this weekend, let me know what you think of it. If I’m wrong about the film, then I’ll spend my hard-earned money on a ticket to go see it.. If I’m right…then I’m better off doing something else with those 90 minutes of my life!

I just want to know who green lighted a film portraying a white woman trying to steal a black woman’s black man. The potential for riots and mayhem is frightening. First of all, he’s a successful black man who married his baby-mama, bought her a house and car and the man is “phoine”. DC alone could go up in flames when sistahs get to neck-rolling after seeing this flick. To my melanin-challenged sistahs….stay outta the club for a month or two. Just take my advice. It’ll die down after a spell but, right now, you just not safe. This is some irresponsible foolishness.
Not to be nitpicky, the movie is actually “Obsessed”. But anyway, I take no issue with the movie being greenlit, because let’s face it, we needed a movie like this to see major release ’cause the shit does happen. Deal with it.
But yeah, Beyonce’s inclusion in the film is what gets me, ’cause any movie like this needs to be R-rated. Not just for violence or fuckin’, but for the nature of the subject matter. It really is something that only adults are going to fully grasp and really be able to process after the film’s done.
At this stage of her career, Beyonce’s image won’t allow her to be associated with anything TOO racy or explicit. She’s still got an army of stans junior high and even elementeray school to consider!!
Yes, the movie still has a tired and cliched storyline, but there’s no denying the filmmakers had to feel like their hands were tied given the star.
@ Kayode Kendall, that shows you how much I care about this movie!!! I’m not fixing the title…It’s just gonna have to stay messed up. You do bring up an interesting point as well.
@ Common Share, I doubt this movie will do for women what “Unfaithful” did for men. That movie had us thinking no matter WHAT we did, our woman would still end up cheating on us! LOL
The movie is called, “Obsessed”, not “Obsession” lol.
Anyway, Im one of those folks that say Bey can’t act. I will say she’s getting better though….but she’s never been like, “dang and she can act too?!” for me. At all.
In regards to this movie, though….I do believe that there’s a strong possibility of controversy because of the sexes. But honestly, that’s life and that happens all the time (the white woman stealing the black woman’s man, blah blah…NOT the psychoticness of it all lol). I feel like it will be controversial because of those elements and will light a fire under us Black woman as a whole, instead of folk realizing that the movie may have been created loosely off a real story.
“Future BET Blackbustster Movie” bad – YES
This strictly a MADE FOR TV movie!!!
The nerve of them….I’ll just wait! lol
I will not let my Lasik eyes see this foolishness. Even fine *ss Idris Elba being in the movie can not save it. Somehow they have made him look corny. Where is his sexy facial hair. There is something about the way Beyonce articulates herself in movies that drives me apesh*t!
I call FAIL on her picking up the phone and telling hubby I’ll call you back and then headbutting ol girl. Why was ol girl standing around while Beyonce’s on 3 way waiting to get headbutted? FAIL!
I agree with all parties above re:Bey’s whack acting skills. This is a direct to video or Lifetime network type movie. lol
based on the commercials – Idris’ role seems minor – like its more about the girls duking it out. (eyes rolling)
@ Sasha, the fact that is was a head butt makes it even worse! You have fists, elbows, feet, kinees the phone in your hand, ect. to choose from, yet you decide to hit her with your own head?!
@ MsDailey, yeah this looks more like a Straight-to-Lifetime type of thing
LOL @ Ms_Slim’s assessment of Beyonce’s acting
Beyonce’s acting is disastrous. Unfortunately I might be dragged to see the movie tomorrow anyway. Womp womp…
@ Miss E, See…I would never have taken you to see that! LOL
LMAO@ The Common Share
