Kiddie Night At Austin Grill

Somebody should have told me that Tuesday evenings are devoted to kids at Austin Grill resturant in Silver Spring. Not that I don’t like kids, because I do…I just needed to be prepared for what I encountered while looking to grab a quick bite to eat.

My mom and I were in Downtown Silver Spring, looking for somewhere to eat. Since she wanted a burger, we decided to stop by the nearest place serving that type of cuisine, which was Austin Grill. What we failed to realize until entering the place was that there was a guitarist and drummer onstage, singing songs to a group of toddlers.

At first, it was cute seeing the kids jump around with big smiles on their faces. However, as the music and screaming went on, it got slightly irritating. I just kept my mouth shut and dealt with it, since the kids were there first. Besides, I was too hungry to spend much time focusing on anything else other than food. Once I got started eating, I was able to tune the rest of the world out.

I paid for it once I left, though. I think one of those toddlers must have snuck over and kicked me in the head while I was eating, because the headache that set in once I left was kind of serious. I probaby have some kind of kiddie concussion caused by repeated exposure to “red light, green light” “the wheels on the bus go round and round” and “row, row, row your boat.”

Once again, I love kids, and I have no complaints about the resturant in general. I just need to be prepared for this type of onslaught of ridiculously loud screaming and repetitive songs. Otherwise, it’s like an adorable version of Chinese water torture!

Hey – I am not ashamed to admit I hate kids. They give me a headache everytime the open their mouths to whine.

Is it too much to ask that folks don’t take their kids out of the house until they’ve been “trained”?
