Drunk Food

seven-eleven-hot-dog

In light of the jumbo slice pizza entry that I wrote awhile back, I began thinking about meals that I only seem to crave after a night of drinking. Some of these foods are perfectly acceptable to eat while sober. Others are only good after heavy alcohol consumption. Below, I have compiled a list of drunken food, along with it’s sobriety consumption rating. Some are limited to the DC area, while others are nationwide:

  • 7-11 Hot Dogs Only good when trying to regain some semblance of sobriety.
  • Ben’s Chili Bowl Acceptable while sober, but not nearly as good without alcohol in your system
  • Jumbo Slice Pizza See Ben’s Chili Bowl description.
  • Doritos Outstanding snack choice while sober, tastes good while drunk, but may lead to a rough night/morning.
  • McDonalds Late Night Menu You can eat this while sober, and it’s slightly better after drinking thanks to hunger and lack of options.
  • Carry Out Fried Chicken Wings A late night staple, these kick ass whether you’re drunk as hell, or the designated driver. The only problem is going to the carry out at 3AM is sketchy at best, life threatening at worst(depending on where you live).
  • Harris Teeter If you are lucky enough to live near a 24 hour Harris Teeter, you will have some healthy options in a feeble attempt to counterbalance all of the poisonous stuff that you have placed in your body while out partying. Plus, you can buy something delicious and microwaveable from the deli, then go home and call it a night!
  • Julia’s Empanadas Not bad when you’re drunk, and OK when sober. Only problem is, once you try a REAL empanada from somewhere that makes good ones, you’ll never be able to go back to Julia’s and look at them the same way ever again.
  • Oohs and Aahs The food here is great drunk, sober and all points in-between. The catch is that you will pay an arm and a leg if you order food late at night from there. Sure, you have enough left over for breakfast the next day, but their late night menu is a direct hit to the wallet.
  • White Castle We don’t have any White Castles in DC, but those burgers are great all the time in my opinon. Alas, they are called “Murder Burgers” for a reason: They will tear your stomach UP! Prepare fot a case of the bubble guts.
  • The Diner I like the food here, because they keep it basic and simple. Plus, you can get live drama and action if you go on the right night.

Let me know what you think of this list, and feel free to provide your own suggestions to add to it.

  • Wild Turkey (0.500)
  • Damn You Uncle Ben (0.487)
  • Brain Freeze (0.487)
  • Egg Nog (0.487)
  • Hairmegeddon (0.487)

White Castle is in the “only good after heavy alcohol consumption” column for me. I just had some Friday night, blah.

I’ve been to the diner in DC a couple of times and it was always something going on, lol. But the food is good.

-Hot Dogs aka street meat are the best after clubbing or when you have had way too much to drink (from any vendor in clubbing district).

-Shawarmas so good but can mess up your outfit because the sauce leaks from the wrapping

-Chinese food (in Toronto they are the place to be because they are 24hours)

-Late night breakfast diners (Frans, Denny’s, Golden Griddle)

-McDonalds is really the very last option if you can’t get the first few things I have listed. But on another note 100 nuggets at 4am will make the fastfood person think your on crack but they will do the order.

Steak & Egg on Wisconsin Ave always hits the spot after you’ve got a lot of alcohol in your system, but it’s just as tasty at 1 o’clock in the afternoon.

Also in that category: Florida Avenue Grill (their biscuits are phenomenal!)

Ooohs and Aaahs always gets me when I’m at BlackCat…that catfish be calling me. If I got the twenty cash I will go. Manny and Olga’s has good pizza. Pepperoni and mushroom is so good!

Here in California everyone posts up at the nearest Denny’s unless you want to get greasy Jack in the Box. You might find a Carl’s Jr., but those seem to be the options mainly.

Why didn’t we hit up any of those good places when I was there?! You know I was drunk as hell! LOL!

I love jumbo slice after clubbing. But, it will will give you bubble guts too. Ben’s Chili Bowl used to be off the hook but their food isn’t so great now. However, I did see a woman tase her man and the girl he was cheating with there once. Good times…
