Labor Day Weekend is here, which begs the age-old question: When is the socially acceptable time to start drinking? This debate has gone on for ages. Today, I would like to come to some kind of consensus once and for all, as this bottle of Three Olives vodka stares at me from across the room. When I was young, my mother always said to me “People who drink in the middle of the day are alcoholics.” As I grew up, I began to recognize the holes in that theory, especially as I began attending cookout and tailgate parties for football games. Most of these people appear to lead normal, productive lives during the week. They can’t all be raging drunkards spinning out of control.
Next, I amended her theory and brought myself to think that people who drink in the morning have an alcohol problem. This was debunked when I remembered all of the older Down-South folks that I know who like to put a shot of liquor in their coffee every morning as an old wives tale, home-remedy way of staying healthy(and taking the edge off). Most of them are sober the majority of the time as well.
Right now as it stands, the only daytime rule that I have is to avoid being trashy drunk before 2PM. If it’s obvious that you drank your breakfast this morning, you might want to look into seeking help.
Then again, that’s just my personal rule. In your opinion, when is it socially acceptable to start drinking, and what are your guidelines for drinking before the sun goes down?

This was just on Family Feud the other day! The number one answer was 12pm, so I guess that’s it, LOL
I’m a fan of day drinking. Nothing like a little plum wine on your lunch break, makes the day just whiz on by.
Nothing wrong with day drinking! It is only our Puritan forbears who imposed their Carrie Nation-esque intolerance on the rest of us to try and shame us into not putting back a few pints at lunch. Europeans drink during lunch all the time! And they invented glass. So we have:
Europeans: Invented glass.
Puritanical Intolerants: Invented hats with buckles on them.
Case closed.
the financing pic Lol!
@ Lani, you gotta LOVE Adsense and the “targeted” ads they run
@ Brando, that’s HILARIOUS! Excellent point!
@ Candy, I’ve never had plum wine
@ Maximillian, I usually stop internally judging folks I see drinking around lunchtime, so that sounds about right.
Anytime is a good time as long as you are not throwed come 2pm. Being in the Navy I’ve seen people/been able to start drinking around 11am and keep a decent buzz going well into club time
I work the night shift, 8pm to 4am, and I’ve been known to visit the liquor store when they open at 6am. People look at me like an alcoholic cuz I’m getting wasted by 8am, but shoot, I just want a good “night’s” sleep. AND sometimes I look alcoholic-ish because I’m drinking alone because none of my day shift friends want to drink that early. But to answer the question, I think people should drink when they wanna drink. We’re all grown here.
Aside from a shot in your coffee or a couple of mimosas, you don’t drink before noon. In your own timezone, lushes. Where do you get these pictures?
I thought you were curtailing your drinking. No?
This question is right up there with, “Why the heck can’t I wear my white bucs after tomorrow?!”
It doesn’t matter what time you start, its midnight somewhere in the world so you’re good.
my rule is not before 3pm buts its usually after 6pm most of the time
