I now present video from The Foreign Exchange show at the Black Cat on Sunday. Forgive my Foster’s-fueled trash-talk and rhyming along to Nic’s Groove at the beginning of this clip. My antics were referencing the episode of What’s Happening where ReRun was bootlegging The Doobie Brothers’ concert. That memory of ReRun dropping the tape recorder while dancing to “Takin’ It To The Streets” will never NOT be funny to me! The music stopped and everything! Michael McDonald looked at him like “I’m gonna knock 50 pounds of black off your big ass for taping my show!”
Don’t worry, there are more clips…but before I get to them, I have to give style credit where it’s due: Phonte’s hat/suit combo is as smooth as it gets. That outfit made ME want to go grown-man shopping and step my adult contemporary game up!
Next up is the breakdown from If She Breaks Your Heart which I filmed because I became smitten with the lovely and talented Yahzarah that night. I didn’t try to do it to her, so technically I’m not a man-groupie. Whatever the case, look at her in that dress, then thank me for this clip in the comments section.
Next we have quite possibly my favorite song from my favorite album, Take Off Your Blues. I had to cut this clip short so I could get to two-stepping and whatnot. Then again, if you watched the clip, you probably heard me express this desire by cursing out the entire internet.

That “taking it to the streets” episode is by far the best episode of Whats Happening. Omg. Im cracking up over here! Thanks for taping “If she breaks your heart” best breakdown ever!
Loved the show and love Phonte’s style….BUT…there were a lot of dudes who were motivated by his style at the show. Note to men: do NOT wear a three-piece suit to a concert…especially if you are big! You will no longer smell fresh by the middle of the set and will offend others around you…ugh, the smells were pissing me off! Who wears a suit to a stand-up concert at Black Cat? Geez! Okay, sorry for venting…I’m jus sayin!
