A Couple of Days Late With This Mixtape

I know I’m a few days late with this one, but I have to share it, since it’s been in heavy rotation on my laptop and iPod for the past couple of days. Zo!, one-half of the collaborating team behind the Zo! and Tiggalo Love the 80’s album(and jheri-curled album art) is back with a free mixtape/EP/whatever you want to call it, titled …Just Visiting Too. It’s nice. REALLY nice! Pretty much the entire team of collaborators from The Foreign Exchange’s last album was involved in this, so you already know to expect good things.
Here’s the download link. I love the fact that there’s a quality remake of one of my favorite old school songs, Nights Over Egypt. Also, you can’t go wrong redoing Bobby Caldwell hits. There is a nice version of “My Flame” on there, the song that was sampled in The Notorious B.I.G.’s “Sky Is the Limit.”
“While n*ggas flirt, I’m sewing tigers on my shirt, and alligators. You wanna see the inside? I’ll see you later! Here comes the drama. ‘Oh! That’s the n*gga with the fake! POW! Why they punch me in my face? Stay in your place!”
Sorry about that. Had a Biggie flashback moment.
This take on “My Flame” is almost as nice as Dwele’s remake of “Open Your Eyes”, another Caldwell classic sampled by a rapper(Common). As great as it is, I only mentioned this song so you could watch Asian kids lip-sync to it. You’re welcome.
Plus, today presents me with an opportunity to make fun of the fact that Bobby Caldwell is one of the blackest-sounding names for a white man of all-time. When I hear the name “Bobby Caldwell”, I expect to see a bald brother with a thick T.D. Jakes looking goatee, not this guy. Whatever the case, Bobby made some soulful music, so I’m not talking too much trash this fine Thursday morning.
Let me know what you think of …Just Visiting Too in the comments section. That, or just thank me for giving you more free stuff. Gratitude hasn’t gone out of style yet. It’s still sexy in most parts of the world!
Oh yeah, to all the DC area readers, Zo! is representing Silver Spring, MD(by way of Detroit), so support area music!

It’s really, REALLY good soul music in a time when great soul is only done by a few new schoolers (Maxwell, D’Angelo ‘where r u?’, Foreign Exchange, etc…). And it’s FREE, cotdammit!
