Adopting an Alley Cat

thunder-cat

The photo above is Thunderpussy, my unofficial pet alley cat. As many of you who follow me on Twitter are aware, Thunderpussy has been hanging out around my house on a regular basis. At first, I didn’t like her, because she went into heat and woke me up in the middle of the night. I don’t know if you’ve ever heard what cats in heat sound like, but just in case, I made a video so you can understand my plight:

The mumbling at the end was me, threatening to throw water on her for waking me up with that foolishness.

Eventually, her scuzzy little self started to grow on me. I guess it’s because I see her almost every morning sleeping on this old chair on my front porch. That’s when I decided to give her the most badass name I could think of at the time: Thunderpussy.

When I told someone I know that the cat’s name is Thunderpussy, her response was “Did you name it after an old girlfriend or something?”

My reply to that was “I should only be so lucky. I hope to someday meet a woman with a nickname like that, and impregnate her. Many times.”

Since I haven’t heard that shrieking noise in awhile, I think Thunderpussy might actually be pregnant. If so, I guess I should call the right people to come get her before she gives birth all over my God-damn chair…I mean, to ensure the safety and well being of her and her kittens. Who should I call? I don’t want her to get put to sleep, but as you can tell from that photo, she’s a little unkempt and disheveled. I won’t even pet her, because I Lord knows what kind of cooties she has on that grey fur! If you know what to do in this kind of situation, let me know.

That clip was hilarious. Thunderpussy would make an awesome name for a band. Now I just need to learn how to play guitar. (I’ll pay you for use of the name.)

Be careful approaching her when her tail is all fluffed up like that. That usually means she’s afraid and on the defense. My friend tried to pet my cat Blu when his tail was like that and Blu (who thinks he’s gangsta anyway) damn near stabbed my friend in the throat.

    So umm, yeah.

LLS @ the name Thunderpussy, thats a vicious name tho LOL..
Round my old way we had strays and they multiplied but that was cool as long as they get fed. One of my neighbors fed them daily, and I did too once or twice and threw out food to em here and there, one of them had kittens in our shed so I fed the mama cat cause she was doing alot going back and forth and looking real po and skinny….. so as long as they are not sick when stray have kittens they seem to survive and thrive even, but they will need someone to feed them and give em water…..

Bring her in the house. There are many Spay and Save type organizations. A little googling and you can probably find one. They often offer free spaying.

I agree with Jamie. There are plenty of no-kill shelters around that come up rather quickly with a Google search.

If you live in DC – call Washington Humane Society and ask about TNR (trap-n-release). Its a no cost to you service where they spay/neuter and flea dip the cats.

I’ve been down this road. The better they eat the more kittens they have more often.

It was great meeting you last night after the Hip Hop Trivia. And yes one day you are going to be recognized by someone who reads the site and knocked out like Deebo on Friday. Possibly by an ex who thinks you named the new cat after her.

Well, she could be pregnant, but its also not the mating season, so she wouldnt be in heat right now anyways.

Calling the Humane Society is a good suggestions, but you can also try calling the Alley Cat Allies. What they do is trap and release. When they trap the cats, they vaccinate and neuter them, and then release them back in their neighborhoods.

Yes, Thunderpussy does look a litte scruffy, but Im sure she would look good once cleaned up. But, judging by her size and the fact that she goes into heat, shes probably too old to become an indoor cat, so theres a good chance she would be put down if caught. But try those other agencies to see if theyll do a TNR because that sounds like that would be best for her.

    Good luck!

Also, if you can get to a point where shes letting you pet her and pick her up, you can try taking her to the Washington Animal Rescue League. Theyre a no-kill shelter, and if she really is preggers, theyll be able to get the kittens adopted out.
