Do You Mind If I Cut In?

When was the last time you saw someone ask to “cut in” on a nightclub dance floor? I am pretty sure that most of your responses will be “never.” Hilariously enough, I had it happen to me recently. Now you understand why I write a comedy blog; the situations I find myself in need to be documented and made fun of. I truly believe that God chose me as a vessel whose mission is to spread the message of everyday f*ckery to the masses.

The night in question, I was dancing with a young lady and some guy she met earlier in the evening came over to me and asked if he could cut in. My first thought was “Is this guy really asking permission to remove this woman’s supple backside from my genitals just so he can place his there instead?

My second thought was “That’s some bold sh*t right there! He must think he can whup me or something, because you just don’t go up to strangers and say ‘do you mind if I dance with your date?’ like that scene in Animal House unless you’re completely unafraid of that guy getting mad and throat-chopping the Hell out of you.

My third thought was “Wow. My second thought was kind of hostile. I need to lay off the Hennessey.”

Finally, I replied by asking the girl “You’re pretty comfortable over here, right?” Once she replied with a yes, I looked Mr. Cut In in the eyes and said “Sorry buddy.” He walked away, and I kept an eye on him for a bit to make sure he wasn’t planning on going upside my head with a Corona bottle. Once that threat level went down, my evening went back to it’s original level of awesomeness.

Is asking to cut in while others are dancing ever fashionable anyplace other than a wedding? I need to know if I’m the one in the wrong. Please share your opinion on cutting in, and if you think there is ever an appropriate time to do so.

Oh yeah…I just put that clip of Jean Claude Van Damme dancing for the Hell of it. Enjoy!

On the real, that’s some gentlemanly shit, right there. You should have made friends with that dude…

On another note, you need to do a blog on how all the movies we grew up on in the 80s depicted black people as some scary species…it was cool because no one figured out that I couldn’t fight when I was little because they were all scared of me because I was black, but damn.

Two things: Kudos for pulling the Van Damme clip. That’s class pure and simple.

Second, you handled the passive-aggressive gentleman interloper in a smooth, player fashion. Billy Dee Williams would have been proud and bought you a 40 oz.

LMAO @ article and responses. And you’re right – no one asks that question anymore – we just lay in wait until you’ve walked away for a drink or the bathroom.

I think what you did was perfect – you asked the female what she wanted. I even liked how you asked. lol

I swear you find your self in the strangest situations…lol. I think it was damn rude of random dude to ask you if he can cut in..I mean what about the females wants and needs. If you had said sure, would she have been forced to dance with some ass wipe who asks people in the club can he “cut in”?

Real talk, that dude was ballsy… I’d almost give him props for trying.

On that note this would’ve been even funnier in a strip club.
