Today is my grandmother’s 80th birthday. I know that most women do not like their age being put out there, but when you’re 80 years old, it’s a big deal! You wear that like a badge of honor! It’s actually an honor for me to be able to write something over here about her making it to this milestone while still blessed with good health, a sound mind and an incredible spirit that makes everyone around her smile.
If I live long enough to be an 80 year old, you can best believe every bit of filter left in my body will be gone by then. One earns the right to have moments of honest belligerence when you’re a senior citizen. There’s too much life experience trapped inside to not occasionally say “Sit down and shut the Hell up when grown folks are talking” every now and then. I feel that any person who does not respect their elders is not worthy to be respected themselves. These are the people who paved the way for us. The least you can do is make them comfortable and happy at this stage in their lives!
So to Grandma, the person most responsible for my respect for family, as well as one of the direct contributors to my sense of humor, Happy Birthday. I hope to be as incredible as you someday!

@ Nzinga, Happy Belated Birthday!!!
Rocky 4….Come on…The Godfather of Soul was on it! Plus, it had so many political undertones that mirrored the cold war between the Soviets and the US and the soundtrack was simply phenomenal.
