When I heard that NBA legend Dominique Wilkins was attacked after broadcasting a Hawks game, I was shocked. Who in the Hell would want to hit ‘Nique? Everyone I know who has met him said that he’s a laid back and friendly fellow. It wasn’t until after I learned the details behind the attack that I said to myself, “I have to make fun of this.”
It turns out that Dominique Wilkins’ attacker was former NBA referee Rashan S. Michel. Michel is allegedly in the suit-making business these days, and claims Wilkins owes him money over some clothes. I guess Michel decided to forgo lawyers and take the thug route by confronting him at his job on live television. I really hope video of the fight surfaces, because I imagine it was like a ‘hood nigga version of the “fuck you, pay me” scene from Goodfellas, only way less riveting.
I wonder what was going through Rashan Michel’s mind, because this was a hair-brained scheme from the start. First of all, he had to buy an expensive ass ticket to the game just to sit close enough to walk up to Dominique Wilkins. That’s more money on top of the loss he’s already taking with the suits.
Secondly, Michel sat there the entire game and waited for it to be over before making his move. You’d think he’d have some second-thoughts during those two hours, but I guess not. He was probably on his cell phone with some loser friend who was instigating and egging him on, saying stuff like “You just ‘gon sit there looking at the fool who owes you money?! If I were you, I’d beat his ass! He’s lucky I aint there!”
Third, and most importantly, this guy had to know he was going to go to jail over this, and still not get his money. With all the security at major sporting events, I wonder when logic and reason took the night off in this man’s head, and blind rage took over. The worst part about it is that reports claim that Wilkins won the fight!
So let’s add things up, shall we? Rashan Michel spent his own money to seek vengeance, and not only did he not get his money back, he got arrested and smacked around for his efforts. On top of all that, it may have been captured on camera. I’d say that equals a failure of epic proportions. What do you all think?
