I Told You So: Barry Bonds Edition

Little Barry, Big Barry
Little Barry, Big Barry

Barry Bonds managed to beat his perjury charges yesterday. I have been saying all along that this trial was pointless. Prosecuters never had enough damning evidence in this case to convict someone who can afford the type of lawyers Barry can, so now, I am obligated to say “I told you so.”

I know that Barry Bonds got stronger and better as he got older. Sure, he went from a slim and trim future Hall of Famer to the Black Incredible Hulk and the greatest hitter of all time seemingly overnight. Yes, Barry’s head grew to the size of a f*cking beach ball and his records are soon to have asteriks next to them. My point is that even though we all know he used performance-enhancing drugs, this trial was a complete waste of time and money. The prosecution should have just admitted that their true motive was to embarass Bonds by putting his mistress on the stand to talk about his steriod-shrunken balls. I mean, who cares about guilty or innocent after hearing some sh*t like that?

What really sucks is that the lawyers who went after Barry Bonds actually thought that they could win this thing. That’s like being a pro basketball player and celebrating after missing a slam dunk. Yes, these people went through years of law school and countless hours of preparation, just for me to compare them to someone named Von Wafer.

The one obstruction of justice charge will probably result in a slap on Barry’s oversized wrist when it’s all said and done. I’m no legal expert in any sense, but pretty much anyone who has watched enough episodes of Law & Order could have told you how this one was going to end up.

He was a HoF’er based on his Pittsburgh numbers alone. And at some point we have to say – well done to you Barry for having the sense to not snitch on himself AND have a friend that will do time rather than snitch on him.

Not only was his trail a waste of time but the whole congressional investigation about steriod use in MLB. No one cared then and no one cares now.

I know my comment is rather late but I stumbled across your blog for the first time today and will probably comment on other post that are much older. The things you do while bored and at work.
