Monday evening, I stopped by the National Press Club to attend the book signing for How To Be Black by Baratunde Thurston. I am compelled to write about that evening for a number of reasons, but I will narrow them down to the top three and list them below:
- This book is very entertaining, and I’m very glad to hear that it’s already enjoyed two weeks of New York Times Bestseller success.
- Baratunde is a really funny guy. If you ever get a chance to see him perform live, don’t miss it.
- The photo my friend Kenya took of me getting the book signed by Thurston is so terrible it’s hilarious. She called my name and caught me right in the middle of making a “WTF does this person want from me?” face. I look scared, confused, frustrated, constipated and Lord knows what else.
You can check out more information about How To Be Black here. I got a lot of great ideas from the creative marketing efforts Thurston and his publishers implemented to spread the word about this book. Hopefully, I’ll be able to try a few of them out for myself with some of the projects I have coming down the pipeline.
On an unrelated side note, I was quoted in the Washington Post Express again today. I did not find this out until 3:30 PM, but better late than never, I guess. You can see the quote right here by going to page 36.Tweet
